Geomatics has a rich and varied history dating back to the Babylonians and Egyptians having grown out of geometry, surveying, land ownership, conflict management, navigation and astronomy. Extractions: General Information The Association of Canada Lands Surveyors is a federally enacted professional Association. The ACLS has 540 members located across Canada who have expertise in surveying, photogrammetry, remote sensing, geodesy, hydrography and land information systems. Canada Lands Surveyor (CLS) commissions are granted to those who meet specific standards of geomatics training and education and successfully pass a set of rigorous examinations. Many CLSs also hold a provincial commission, allowing them to practice in more than one jurisdiction. Cadastral surveys on Canada Lands or private lands in a territory may only be performed by licensed members of the Association. Entities (companies, partnerships, etc.) must hold a Permit issued by the Association to offer and provide surveying services. The ACLS presently has 350 members that hold a Licence to practice and 180 Permit holders. Privacy Notice
