An English chamber orchestra specializing in candlelight costumed performances
of works by some of the world’s major baroque composers, on period instruments. “The musical standard throughout was exceptional, demonstrating enthusiasm, dedication and

Jean Angers Lorand Fenyves An outstanding soloist, Lorand Fenyves has delighted crowds with virtuosic violin performances undertaken with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and the Israel Philharmonic. In 1993, he performed at Austria's Haydn-Riegger Festival alongside Canino and Schiff and toured Europe twice in 1998. Yet it is perhaps as a professor that he has made his greatest impression on the musical community. Founder of the Israel String Quartet, professor at the Toronto University, Fenyves has given master classes in Europe, North America, and Japan. Maurizio Fuks Violin professor at Indiana University, Mr. Fuks began his violin studies in his native Uruguay. After graduating from the Juilliard School of Music where he studied with Joseph Fuchs and Ivan Galamian, he furthered his training with Jasha Heifetz. Now retired from a distinguished international career as concertmaster, chamber musician, and soloist, he devotes himself entirely to teaching. He is a regular visiting professor at the Hochschule Mozarteum Salzburg, the University of Limerick in Ireland, the Royal Academy of Music and the Yehudi Menuhin School in London, and gives master classes all over the world. Mauricio Fuks is regarded as one of the finest violin teachers of our time.

Young musical duo run their own concert TORONTO -
A brother and sister musical team are running their own classical concert on April 27 at the Armour Heights Presbyterian Church.
William and Andrea Herzog, who play the violin and cello respectively, have decided to take their careers into their own hands. Though they have performed around town many times before, this spring they are going to run the show themselves.
William, 14, and Andrea, 15, began their string studies at age four and five respectively. The duo, who have performed at numerous public events and venues, both as amateurs and professionals, have been called "very promising young Canadians" by Mayumi Seiler, international violinist and artistic director of the Via Saltzburg concert series.
Four years ago, they were the two youngest members to be accepted into the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, and have more recently been invited to play with the Toronto Symphony itself.
The list of the teachers that have trained them looks like a who's who of the Toronto music community and includes Shauna Rolston, Mayumi Seiler, David Hetherington, Anna Lee Patapatanakoon, Daniel Domb, Erika Raum, Bryan Epperson, Lorand Fenyves, Mark Fewer and David Zafer.
Up until a year ago, they were entering competitions to get performing experience, and collecting a multitude of awards. This past year, their fourth at both the Kiwanis and Peel Festivals, Andrea and William entered as soloists and as a chamber duo, and came home with 13 first prizes out of 13 classes between the two of them.

About U of O Prospective Students Students Services ... Gazette Archives Printable Version January 11, 2002 Celebrating women and song Marlene Orton Musicians from across the country will converge on the University of Ottawa later this month to celebrate the works of women whose names have sometimes been overshadowed by their better-known male counterparts. The festival features a series of lectures and eight concerts with music culled from nearly 800 years of work by women. They range from the sacred chants and musical plays of the 12th century abbess Hildegard von Bingen to the so-called second Canadian national anthem – the Hockey Night in Canada Theme, composed by Vancouver native Dolores Claman in 1968. The festival is a collaboration of the Ottawa Chamber Music Society, the University of Ottawa and the Association of Canadian Women Composers, which was formed in 1980 and has grown to become a national network. Seven new works by Canadian women will premiere during the festival. “We’ve never had, in our entire history as an organization, even one concert exclusively devoted to music by women,” says Julian Armour, artistic director of the chamber music society. “We play lots of music by women. But if you go through the history of music, you will see composer after composer who is instantly recognized, and they are for the most part men.” Amour is often asked why women don’t write more music. “Women,” he says, “have written a lot of music, but in every country and in every period in history, there have been women with phenomenal talents who were discouraged from writing music.”

PERFORMER BIOGRAPHIES FLUX QUARTET
Partly as an homage to the 60's Fluxus art movement, violinist Tom Chiu founded the FLUX Quartet in 1996 with a quest similar to some of the original Fluxus artists: a search for a living art for all people with an embracing "anything-goes" spirit. To that end, FLUX has always been committed to projects of unique vision that defy aesthetic categorizations. One such project is Morton Feldman's String Quartet No. 2. Lasting more than six continuous hours, it was "a disorienting, transfixing experience that repeatedly approached and touched the sublime." (Alex Ross, The New Yorker)

JESSE MILLS (Violin)
MAX MENDEL (Viola)
DARRETT ADKINS (Cello)

Ms. Bennett is known as an extremely gifted exponent of contemporary music. Her extensive repertoire includes numerous world premieres, many written especially for her. Ensembles with whom she has appeared in modern works include the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the New York New Music Ensemble, Da Camera of Houston, Orchestra X, the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra,, Dinosaur Annex, the Boston Musica Viva, Collage, the Quarteto Latino-Americano, and the Borromeo, Mendelssohn, and Boston Composers' String Quartets.
