Passaic is an industrial and manufacturing center, located in a densely populated section of northeastern New Jersey having the markets of metropolitan New York at its doors. It lies 13 miles from Newark, 5 miles from Paterson, and 11 miles from Jersey City, and covers an area of 3.26 square miles. Because the city has fine highways, railroads, and tunnels, many of its residents commute daily. This also makes Passaic one of New Jersey's important residential communities. Many nations of the world are represented in its population of more than 61,394. The Poles rank first (4,430) among the foreign born element which totals 17,720 persons. There is no authentic record of, first Polish settlement in Passaic, which was settled by wealthy Dutch farmers as early as 1679. However, one of the earliest Polish land owners in the area was the Zabriskie family, which claims descent from Olbracht Zaborowski who emigrated from Prussia to New Amsterdam in 1662.

Wedding Music > Customer Review #1: Fantastic CD

If you love string quartet music rather than chamber orchestra music, like I do, then this is a wonderful, classy CD to have. All the selections are fantastic, rather than just a few of them.
Wedding Music > Customer Review #2: The Best CD for Choosing Wedding Music!
If you are a couple researching wedding music for your big event, you wont regret purchasing this wonderful, beautifully-recorded CD. It is a MUST HAVE recording. It clearly represents what kind of music you will have at your wedding. The sound is gorgeous, clear and full, and it contains the standard pieces that string quartets play at weddings. While my husband and I were deciding what music to choose for our wedding, we bought a whole selection of wedding CDs from Amazon.com. One crucial detail we did not think of before we bought all these recordings is that we are hiring a string quartet: not a chamber orchestra, a rock band or a group of electric keyboard players. Most of the CDs we bought, such as the "Classical Wedding Traditions" CD (a recording of a chamber orchestra), were useless. Its not like we will be having the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra or NY Philharmonic play at our wedding. You cant ask a string quartet to play orchestra music. You can ask for some transcriptions, but they generally play music specifically written for string quartet. The first violinist of the string quartet we hired highly recommended this CD to us as a basis of what they enjoy playing at weddings.

Rob was cited for his "steadfast pursuit of excellence in education and for encouraging family medicine residents to surpass their goals." FORTIES In that 55-year lapse, a tiny campus had "exploded" from five buildings into a modern, technologically advanced school. Ronald, accompanied by his wife, Doris ‘47, didn’t recognize anyone or anything. That is, until he sat down at the Class of ‘44 dinner. From that point on, the dinner quickly became a humourous jaunt down memory lane. As it turns out, Ronald, who held the University record in the 100-metre dash for 11 years, once took Valene on a date to a Hamilton Tiger-Cat football game during their undergraduate years. "I invited her to that football game and it cost only 75 cents each to get in," Ronald remembers. "Imagine that today."

On Monday I had a nice treat - I attended a show on Broadway - Oscar Wilde's 'Salome: The Reading' (story of Princess Salome and John the Baptist). The cast - Al Pacino, Marisa Tomei, Diane Wiest.
What an experience. Pacino was fantastic. Marisa Tomei did an excellent job, and held her own next to Al. Diane Wiest also did a wonderful job.
I got an autograph and a few photos of Al after the show, as well as Marisa.

    Buffy
What's a guy over 40 doing watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Stop dreaming this is Freddie's girl.
All I can say is that however much I liked the series (as did most critics) I'm glad it is ending. I caught last night's show and it is as cool as ever. To see why check out Faith and Spike in the basement just chatting it up. It is a scene of no importance but the dialog and the actor's delivery of it and the director's building of it is totally engrossing. No other show, not even the whiny Ally McBeal can make fun of itself so well, like the opening when Xander has a fantasy/dream involving two of the nubile poptarts who are camping out in Buffy's house for protection. When the non-dream girls wakes him up: "be right there, have a leg cramp!"

27th of May 2001 Yes, I went book hunting as promised last week in What's New. And I found some very interesting stuff! Two copies of Terri Windling's Faces of Fantasy (for a buck apiece!) were the best acquisitions. Nonfiction purchases included Masks of Bali: Spirits of Ancient Drama The Beatles: The Ultimate Recording Guid e, Mellencamp: Paintings and Reflections , and Green English: Ireland's Influence on the English Language . Fiction finds were Lewis Carroll's The Wasp in the Wig (a lost tale from Through the Looking Glass ), Caroline Graham's The Killings at Badger's Draft (an English pastoral mystery), William Kotzwinkle's Fata Morgana Arkham Asylum (a Batman graphic novel), Anne Perry's Bethlehem Road (a Victorian mystery), and Joan Vinge's The Snow Queen (sf). Before you think that our household is awash with books, I should note the entire third floor is the library, so everything is neatly tucked away on shelves. Well, most everything... With two humans and eight felines living here, nothing is ever completely orderly! First, an annoucement from Chuck Lipsig, our LOC Editor: "As mentioned several weeks ago

    60. Beata Moon
with marimbist Makoto Nakura and harpist victoria Drake for his deep musicality and virtuosity, violinist Chin Kim holds a BM from William paterson College and
    http://www.beatamoon.com/cdlinernotes.html
    Liner Notes
Curiously like her name, Beata Moon's music doesn't betray its origins. The music sounds American; at least no other country's music would contain this mixture of elements. Every once in a while you'll hear a moment that sounds like Copland, but no more than a moment. It strikes one as music that was written after minimalism, because some of the white-key repeating riffs and ensemble rhythmic unisons hark back to music of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and their descendants. But if so, it's a music that veered far away from that source, for there is nothing at all of the minimalist concern for texture and static tonality. What there are are striking images that move in a field of lively rhythm. There's nothing unclear about Moon's music. The only mystery is where it came from.
And it came only from Beata Moon. Self-taught as a composer, she was trained as a pianist with the formidable Adele Marcus at Juilliard. Moon's music is an irrepressible outpouring, and sounds like it - not audibly patterned after any particular composer or school of composition, though in its innocent wanderings it may occasionally touch on a recognizable element. It is a music of irreducible images, like those of Stravinsky and Messiaen, not a music of rigorous techniques and cohesive musical language like Schoenberg or Elliott Carter. And, just from listening, one would immediately refer to those images as nocturnal, lunar, were one not afraid of making a cheap reference to the composer's last name.
