midori s commitment to education extends beyond her foundation to herwork with young violinists in master classes all over the world.
http://www.mustcreate.org/kid_home/kids1_6_1midori.shtml
Violinist Midori was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1971 and learned to play the violin from her mother, Setsu Goto. In 1982, when Zubin Mehta first heard her play, he was so impressed that he invited her to be a surprise guest soloist for the New York Philharmonic's annual New Year's Eve concert. That night, she received a standing ovation, which helped her to decide to make music her lifetime career. Her violin is a 1734 Guarnerius del Gesu "ex-Huberman," which is on a lifetime loan to her from the Hayashibara Foundation. Ten years ago, Midori started her non-profit organization, , which brings free music instruction programs throughout the school year to thousands of children who need them. Midori has also founded a similar organization in Japan, sponsoring programs for school children, teenagers, and children in hospitals. She recently created a unique series of concerts called "Total Experience," based on the Japanese idea of kizuna, or "human interconnectedness." These appearances were in small towns all over Japan, and involved experimentation with thematic concepts and proactive audience participation. Midori's commitment to education extends beyond her foundation to her work with young violinists in master classes all over the world. This is in addition to lessons with students at the Manhattan School of Music, where Midori became a member of the violin faculty in 2001.

Midori ~ Elgar - Violin Concerto and Frank - Violin Sonata / Robert McDonald > Customer Review #1: simply great music

What a great violinist. Midori takes Elgars Sonata with passion. Its simply breath-taking. I can see some inteligence here... but how delicate it is. Their interplay creates dimension, and silence comes so strong between the notes. When the central melody of the 2nd Movement comes back in the 3rd movement, it becomes truly a moving moment. I give a credit to her Franck. It is very introspective. She takes a very long stride, instead of playing phrase by phrase she slowly and gradually opens the music. When it reveals strong emotion once a while then it becomes truly meaningful. Shes got a point there. It struck my mind so strong.

Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto Op35; Shostakovich: Violin Concerto No1 (revised), Op99 > Customer Review #1: Mature Midori and Tchaikovsky

Bought this for the Tchaikovsky based on other customer reviews and wasnt disappointed. She is just brilliant in her performance, as you would expect but the nuances are more evident than some of the previous works I have of hers. Maturity, insight, experience all shine through her incredible musicianship. I dont care for Shostakovich as much and no matter how well its played, I dont find the music endearing. The Tchaikovsky is most endearing! Highly recommended for your Tchaikovsky collection!

Advertisement a3=true;aW=300;aH=250;sBoxAd=true; SYRACUSE, N.Y. On a fine September evening, a near-capacity audience has turned out for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra's season-opening program. This is no ordinary concert the guest artist is none other than Midori, and this city in upstate New York has been plastered with posters advertising her appearance. She's a small woman, but she fills the hall with her broad smile as she enters from the wings in a pale blue and silver dress, clutching her 1734 Guarnerius violin. Yet as soon as she puts bow to string, the smile vanishes, and she no longer seems to notice her audience at all. Rather, her performance becomes an intense dance, as she sways, crouches and swerves on stage, pouring forth Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor (the same piece she'll perform at Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall tomorrow and Friday with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra). Her interpretation is subtle, and her tone is sweet quite unlike some of the aggressive whiz kids playing these days.
