Chopin’s Nocturne gives us Elman’s practised finger slides – but at such a slow and ponderous tempo that the work bloats itself like a whale beached on the shore. Elman still has some pungent things to say in Schumann’s Prophet Bird but for all his fervour here, as elsewhere, it’s inevitable that one chooses instead to remember the violinistic titan whose incendiary tone inspired two generations of violinists and enchanted countless admirers around the world.

I vividly remember that grey spring day of 1950 as I walked
down Arbat Street in Moscow on the way from my violin lesson. A
woman, probably in her 30's, suddenly approached me.
“I see you are a violinist,” she said. (Of course, I was
carrying my violin case.) “Maybe you would be interested in buying
some old violin records. My father recently died and left a few
boxes of records, and I really don't know what to do with them. If
someone would buy them, I want, well, maybe, half of what they would
be in the store, and if you are interested, I live nearby, just a
couple minutes walking distance.” No doubt, it was my lucky day. Just a few years before, my closest friend Ilya Dvorkin and I had begun to collect violin records. We were especially interested in antique records. The names of Joachim, Sarasate, Ysaye, Kreisler, Huberman, Kubelik, Elman, and Heifetz were legendary–a magic spell surrounded them. Just consider the fact that Joachim was born in 1831, when Paganini was at the height of his career. That was the year of the most famous recital in music history. Paganini had played in Paris in

Violinist
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
A violinist is an instrumentalist who plays the violin . The terms fiddler or fiddle player are also used. In classical music the "fiddle" terms are usually somewhat informal or jokey: they are more standard expressions in folk music. In between there are nuances of meaning and usage which are difficult to formalize. Composer-violinists were common in the Baroque era: In the early 19th century, Niccoló Paganini did much to expand the instrument's technique. Other notable 19th century violinists include Pierre Rode Joseph Joachim (who was friends with Johannes Brahms Leopold Auer (who taught many famous violinists of following generations), Pablo de Sarasate Henri Vieuxtemps Eugene Ysaye and Henryk Wieniawski Among significant later players are: edit

The greatest physicist of the 20th Century. His ideas revolutionized our entire understanding of the universe. Einstein changed the course of science as much as did Copernicus, Newton and Darwin. His fundamental contribution was the theory of relativity. This has many facets, but for most people the theory means that the faster you travel (approaching the speed of light), the more time slows down. He also was responsible for the formulation E=MC , which describes the relationship between mass and energy. A little mass can give off a lot of energy. Among other things, this formula accounts for the tremendous explosive force given off by an atomic bomb.
After his theories gained prominence, Einstein was appointed professor of theoretical physics at the University of Zurich and at the University of Prague. In 1913, he was appointed director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Physical Institute in Berlin. In 1921, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his research of the photoelectric effect.
Einstein, who was Jewish, fled anti-Semitic persecution in Germany just as Hitler came to power. On his arrival to the United States in 1933, Einstein had a job waiting for him. He was granted a lifetime professorship by the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton. He was naturalized in 1940 as a U.S. citizen his third citizenship.

VIOLIN JOKES
What's the difference between a violin and a viola?
There is no difference. The violin just looks smaller because the violinist's head is so much bigger. What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?
A fiddle is fun to listen to. Why are viola jokes so short?
So violinists can understand them. How do you tell the difference between a violinist and a dog?
The dog knows when to stop scratching.
How do you keep your violin from getting stolen?
Put it in a viola case. What do a violin and a lawsuit have in common?
Everyone is happy when the case is closed. Why do people tremble with fear when someone comes into a bank carrying a violin case?
They think he's carrying a machine gun and might be about to use it.
Why do people tremble with fear when someone comes into a bank carrying a viola case?
They think he's carrying a viola and might be about to use it.
Did you hear about the violinist who bragged that he could play 32nd notes?
The rest of the orchestra didn't believe him, so he proved it by playing one. How many second violinists does it take to change a light bulb?

Competition
Jascha Heifetz was a child prodigy and still a young boy when he made his triumphant musical debut on the violin. In the audience, seated side by side, were Mischa Elman, who had already established his own reputation as a violinist, and Artur Rubinstein, the pianist. As the recital continued, and as Jascha played the violin like an angel, Mischa Elman writhed in increasing discomfort. Finally he leaned over to Rubinstein and said, "Isn't it terribly hot here?" Calmly, Rubinstein replied, "Not for pianists ..." -A Final Thought ... "The notes I handle no better than many pianists. But the pauses between the notes—ah, that is where the art resides." Artur Schnabel (1882–1951), German-born U.S. pianist. Quoted in: Chicago Daily News (11 June 1958)

Tell Me More About Family Crests
Family Crests and Coats of Arms: the Heraldic Artist
We have researched the Elman family crest in the most recognized sources of coats of arms. Before an artist or craftsman can render a Coat of Arms, it must exist. In other words the arms must have been designed and recorded by the heralds from time immemorial. Heraldic designs matriculated by the lay-artist in many cases becomes uninspired, meretricious and even ugly...
