While no awards were granted for the Best Performance of a Mazurka or Concerto, the Best Performance of a Polonaise was won ex-aequo by Sa Chen and Yundi Li. Of the thirty-eight pianists who qualified for the 2nd stage, 7 were from China, 6 from Japan, 4 from Russia and 4 from Poland (Piotr Machnik, Natalia Sawoscianik, Radoslaw Sobczak, Daniel Wnukowski). Musical couple play together Web posted October 24, 1997 A classic night By Bill Syken Staff Writer The British piano and violin team performing Thursday for the Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society is a duo in every sense of the word. Not only do they play together, they live and love together as husband and wife. They were introduced by a friend, and married, and only then did the musical union form. They've been married five years, and performing together for three. ``It's very good,'' said Eleanor Alberga, the pianist. ``It's broader in so many different senses. If we go on tour, we're with each other. If there's a couple days off it's easy to have a holiday. We're quite frank with each other about what we think of each other's playing.'' The Jamaican-born Ms. Alberga and her husband, British violinist Thomas Bowes, call themselves Double Exposure. At their performance Thursday at the Old Medical College they will perform six violin and piano pieces, including two new pieces. One, No Man's Land Lullaby, was composed by Ms. Alberga, who is as noted a composer as she is a performer, having had pieces commissioned by the London Philharmonic, the London Chamber Symphony and the European Women's Orchestra.
