Professional Bio Program Bio Both Bios All are in Word format back to Press Kit Professional Bio (continued) Ms. Barton's 2003-2004 season spotlights her devotion to diversity. Performing throughout the United States, her recital programs include a performance with pipa and erhu at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her orchestral engagements include appearances with the Dallas Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and Memphis Symphony. Additionally, she will take part in limited engagements with Trio Settecento including performances at Chicago's annual Baroque Festival and the Morton Arboretum. Highlights from last season include a recital in Richmond and showcases with symphonies including Syracuse, Springfield, Wichita, Colorado Springs and the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic. In summer 2003, Ms. Barton returned to the Ravinia Festival, where she collaborated with Marin Alsop, pianist Jonathan Biss, and cellist Gary Hoffman in the Beethoven Triple Concerto. She also participated in the Marlboro Music Festival and returned as guest instructor at Mark O'Connor's Fiddle Camp. Ms. Barton's latest recording, consisting of the Brahms and Joachim Concertos in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and conductor Carlos Kalmar, was released in June 2003 on Cedille Records. This unprecedented combination of violin concertos from two close friends and Romantic masters earned the disc an impressive ten out of ten on artistic and sound quality from ClassicsToday.com. The album also features performances of both Joachim and Barton's own cadenzas for the Brahms Concerto. Brahms Violin Concerto On paper this is just another available version of the frequently recorded Brahms violin concerto, but Cedille have now teamed up with the virtuoso fiddler Rachel Barton to pair it with a substantial work by Joseph Joachim, the demon violinist. Not only that, but Joachim takes first billing with his epic fifty minute Concerto In The Hungarian Style. A surprisingly lacklustre, rather woolly opening to the work by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is offset by Barton's dazzling entry, full of double stopping and bringing home the full passion behind the music. It's a long listen for a first movement, longer than many a Mozart concerto at 27 minutes, but it mostly has enough to keep the listener interested, particularly with Barton at the helm. She's clearly done her research on this work, and applies a flawless technique. A charming Romanze forms the second movement, with a more dramatic central section, until the call to arms from the horn that indicates the onset of the finale, making use of the gypsy elements of the Hungarian style.
