The Difference Between Conservatives and Liberals? A Democratic Underground Expose
We honor the dead, no matter the political leaning. While some remained restrained, many celebrated at Democratic Underground . I considered keeping my peace, but they really upset me. A warning to the easily upset, do not enter: Show Me More!
My sympathies to the country he wrecked My eyes are dry i knew it was more than just the nice weather... that was putting a spring in my step. an evil force has been removed from the continuum. what a goddaman beautiful f***ing day- i think i may just burst into song at any moment... Ding-Dong! Ding-Dong!...the evil f*** is Dead! Evil is being glad a man has died. Politics is temporary, but those who suffer from the loss, and those who mourn the dead feel no gladness. Reagan may have been a target while he sat in the Oval Office, or even while he still breathed, but now he is gone. In his place is a country where the divide is indeed wide. Why? Because of policies? No, because of hate. Hate of ideas, and in the case of liberals that hate seems to include a hate of even the person. Conservatives too seem to espouse this idea at times, and to them I also say it is wrong. If Bill Clinton died I mourn the death as well. Can I say he was a good man? Maybe he was personally, but if I could say nothing good I'd shut up. It is God's place to judge the true man, but here we should only judge the man's ideas and stances while that man can still utter a defense if he wishes. I condemn those everywhere who utter reprehensible gratitude at the passing of a man who honored and respected your right to say of his passing:

22. Time Travel - The Grandmother Paradox
Discusses the possibility of associated paradoxes from a philosophical rather than purely scientific viewpoint, Mobius strip, bibliography and links.
http://www.cix.co.uk/~antcom/gp.html
The Grandmother Paradox
This is the most common example of the Time Travel Paradox.
It describes how a Time Travellers action when travelling back in time alters the Time Travellers future creating a paradox. ....if you kill your grandmother then you would not be born, therefore you cannot travel to the past and kill your grandmother, so you would be born, so you could travel to the past and kill your grandmother.... It could be argued that at the moment he changes the past he should promptly disappear. After all this could be a logical termination of his timeline (and perhaps a good reason for people not to time travel). In the film however he simply begins to fade away represented by a photograph of himself with his brother and sister where they begin to loose parts of themselves. It is not until his parents fall in love and therefore his future birth is established that he returns to health. There are also other aspects of Time Travel used in the film. Marty returns to ten minutes before the time he left and so for ten minutes there is an overlap with two Martys and two time travel cars. Also because of events witnessed by Marty prior to his time travel trip namely the shooting of Dr Emmett he is able to warn him. Knowing this Dr Emmett wears a bullet-proof vest which saves his life.

By 1998, approximately 40% of all U.S. households owned a personal computer; roughly one third of these homes had access to the Internet. Many scholars, technologists, and social critics believe that these changes and the Internet, in particular, are transforming economic and social life (e.g., ). However, analysts disagree as to the nature of these changes and whether the changes are for the better or worse. Some scholars argue that the Internet is causing people to become socially isolated and cut off from genuine social relationships, as they hunker alone over their terminals or communicate with anonymous strangers through a socially impoverished medium (e.g.

http://homepage.mac.com/billtomlinson/newtt.html
To a list and review of Time Travel movies I have seen. To a brand new Time Travel novel with a fresh concept: TimeShift Time Travel and Paradox When one reads Science Fiction there is hardly anything so fascinating and yet so frustrating as the 'Time Travel' story. Fascinating, because it often explores the question 'what would things have been like if...?" or "if one could change a small thing like the position of a grain of sand would that have large effects in the future?". These questions are at the heart of personal or historical regret. Suppose Hitler were never born. Would this be a better or worse world today? Would it be a different world 100 years from now or would the forces of history push towards a singular result?
The stories are often frustrating due in part to a vaguely spelled out theory of time which often allows events that are confusing, contradictory and paradoxical. A science fiction story should not leave us with more questions than it resolves. For a reader of Fantasy, this may be acceptable, for Fantasy is not supposed to be taken as explanatory, prophetic or possibly realistic. But a good science fiction story should have explanations that are not incoherent and if in the story there is something which is claimed to be impossible, then there should be an explanation for that also.
At the heart of the problem is the 'Time Travel paradox' which goes something like this. Suppose a person travels to a time before she was born and breaks a causal chain that led to the traveler's birth. This problem has been commonly explored by asking 'What if you killed your own grandmother before she first conceived?' (Curiously the problem is never expressed in terms of killing your own mother). The apparent paradox is then of a logical sort: P entails NOT P and NOT P entails P. If you kill your grandmother then you would not be born, which in turn would bring it about that you not travel into the past, thus you would not kill your grandmother, thus you would be born causing you to again travel into the past to kill your grandmother.... ad infinitum.

30. The Paradox Of The Best Network
Something more fundamental is at work. The situation has been shaped by a paradox inherent in the very nature of the new technology A paradox has stopped us.

The Paradox of the Best Network
David Isenberg and David Weinberger The communications revolution has been thwarted Just a few short months ago, it seemed that humanity stood on the edge of a communications revolution.  New technology promised to topple barriers of space and time. We were on the verge of inventing new ways for the world to work and play together. We were giddy with possibility. Now a grim face replaces yesterday's optimism. Prospects of new connectedness recede as capital markets tighten, existing telephone companies back off on capital expenditures, established communications equipment suppliers falter, and ambitious new telecom companies fail. But not by technology Despite the darkened outlook, new communications capabilities are within reach that will make the current Internet look like tin cans and string. The technical know-how exists. Radically simplified technologies can blast bits a million times faster than the current network at a millionth of the cost.  These are sitting in laboratories undeveloped, in warehouses undeployed , and in the field underutilized.

34. The EPR Paradox And Bell's Inequality Principle
A short article from the USENET Physics FAQ.
http://math.ucr.edu/home/baez/physics/Quantum/bells_inequality.html
[Physics FAQ] Updated May 1996 by PEG (thanks to Colin Naturman).
Updated August 1993 by SIC.
Original by John Blanton.
Does Bell's Inequality Principle rule out local theories of quantum mechanics?
In 1935 Albert Einstein and two colleagues, Boris Podolsky and Nathan Rosen (EPR) developed a thought experiment to demonstrate what they felt was a lack of completeness in quantum mechanics. This so-called "EPR paradox" has led to much subsequent, and still on-going, research. This article is an introduction to EPR, Bell's inequality, and the real experiments that have attempted to address the interesting issues raised by this discussion. One of the principal features of quantum mechanics is that not all the classical physical observables of a system can be simultaneously known with unlimited precision, even in principle. Instead, there may be several sets of observables which give qualitatively different, but nonetheless complete (maximal possible) descriptions of a quantum mechanical system. These sets are sets of "good quantum numbers," and are also known as "maximal sets of commuting observables." Observables from different sets are "noncommuting observables". A well known example is position and momentum. You can put a subatomic particle into a state of well-defined momentum, but then you cannot know where it is. It's not just a matter of your inability to measure, but rather, an intrinsic property of the particle. Conversely, you can put a particle in a definite position, but then its momentum is completely ill-defined. You can also create states of intermediate knowledge of both observables: if you confine the particle to some arbitrarily large region of space, you can define the momentum more and more precisely. But you can never know both, exactly, at the same time.

The EPR Paradox and Quantum Reality
John Blanton Abstract: An exploration of the meaning of "reality" as it pertains to certain aspects of quantum physics is developed Implications of this concept of reality are explored through the writings of several authors on the subject. Particular attention is given to notable physical experiments that seem to confirm this strange concept of reality. 1. Introduction Although this paper deals with a subject solidly in the physical sciences. some preliminary discussion must be made of philosophy. Hopefully this discussion of philosophy will provide the proper background for understanding the dilemma posed by the problem being discussed. The human race, developing in the reasonably constant environment on this planet, acquired a brain with thought processes that were highly accommodated to the flood of information from the senses. Within the human thought processes this flood of information, in the form of photons into the eyes. sound vibrations into the ears, tactile sensations from the skin, came to represent the reality of the physical world. Along with this concept of reality. humans acquired. as part of their increasingly complex and useful thought processes some other concepts that helped them adapt and to prosper. One of the important concepts that the brain acquired was that of causality. Things happened for a reason. For example. I he house was at the edge of the village because your uncle had it there before going off to war/ The river was flooded because heavy rains increased the amount of water flowing down the channel. The boat floated because the water it displaced weighed more than the boat. This concept of causality was even extended to circumstances for which no direct cause was readily apparent. Perhaps a large rock well had been there for as long as anyone could remember, but people still believed that there was a time when it wasn't there and that something had caused it to be there. Some things could not be explained early on, but reasonable explanations were found later, leading to the conviction that, ultimate explanations would be found for all physical phenomena. The notion of causality was a useful one that would carry the human race well in the study of science right up to the point that people started to study the physical that existed beyond their basic senses.

The paradox is: The Hubble constant is equal to hr/m for the electron, therefore the Universe is not expanding. i.e. H = hr/m

where:
H is the Hubble constant

h is the planck constant
r is the classical electron radius m is the rest mass of the electron It is an indisputable fact that H = hr/m per cubic metre of space. The average value of 26 of the most recent Hubble constant measurements is 64 km/s per Mpc. In astronomical units, hr/m per cubic metre of space is also equal to 64 km/s per Mpc. This is not in doubt. Big Bang codsmologists tell us that the Universe started in a big bang and that it has been expanding ever since. The Hubble constant is said to tell us the rate at which the Universe is expanding. Reiss, Press and Kirshner (ApJ. 473. 88. 1996) found the value of H to be 64 ± 3 km per sec per Mpc. Ned Wright, a cosmology teacher at UCLA, in his web page ‘Ned Wright’s Cosmology Tutorial’ describes the results of Reiss et al. as providing “dramatic confirmation of the Hubble law” i.e. dramatic proof of the Big Bang theory and the expanding Universe. But does he know about Ashmore's paradox?
