The Manchester, NH Urban Open Space Web Site HACKETT HILL DEVELOPMENT PLAN "GREEN VS. GREED" The Hackett Hill preserve-development issue has been a major theme of this Web site for a number of years. Currently, a master plan for the development of the property is under consideration by Manchester's Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The map shown here is taken from the master plan. It is a striking and disturbing image. The area outlined in red constitutes the Manchester Cedar Swamp - an ecological preserve owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy. The conceptual scheme for a business park planned by the City is shown in considerable detail. It is clear that roads and buildings are located in direct proximity to the highly sensitive protected area. In addition, they are located in an area which is currently at least 95% forested and contains vernal pools, territories of numerous mammalian species, and a threatened plant species. The City continues to ignore warnings that the sensitive swampland will be degraded by its planned construction activities. Moreover, the master plan included no scientific studies of the life forms that would be displaced or otherwise adversely affected by the development. Most importantly, suggestions that the area be set aside under a conservation easement and used for environmental education and passive recreation continue to be ignored.

Abstract
Do you think you've got problems? I know I do. This paper contains an ongoing list of open questions in topological graph theory. If you are interested in adding a problem to this list please contact me at the addresses above. The spirit is inclusive-don't submit a problem you're saving for your graduate student. If it appears here, it's fair game. If you solve one of the problems, know some additional history, or recognize it as misphrased or just a stupid question, please let me know so that I can keep the list up-to-date. I've taken quite a bit of liberty editing the submissions. I apologize for any errors introduced. Enjoy my problems-I do!

BIBSOCAN The Internet Discussion Group on Bibliography
BIBSOCAN is an open, unmoderated discussion group dealing with the subject of bibliography. While groups such as SHARP-L, EXLIBRIS and BIBSOFT discuss ancillary aspects, they do not address themselves specifically to questions of a bibliographical nature. A majority of bibliographers are self-taught. This group serves as a forum where knowledge of techniques are shared and solutions to problems proffered and those who are more skilled share their experience and knowledge with those who are still finding their way. News of bibliographical events, conferences, meetings and publications are also posted. Although the list is sponsored by The Bibliographical Society of Canada /La Société bibliographique du Canada, it is the hope of the Society that the group will not be confined to Canadian bibliography and bibliographers but will be international in scope. 131. PyChecker: A Python Source Code Checking Tool
A tool for finding common bugs in Python source code. It finds problems that are typically caught by a compiler for less dynamic languages, like C and C++. open Source, BSDlike
http://pychecker.sourceforge.net/
PyChecker is a tool for finding bugs in python source code. It finds problems that are typically caught by a compiler for less dynamic languages, like C and C++. It is similar to lint. Because of the dynamic nature of python, some warnings may be incorrect; however, spurious warnings should be fairly infrequent. PyChecker works in a combination of ways. First, it imports each module. If there is an import error, the module cannot be processed. The import provides some basic information about the module. The code for each function, class, and method is checked for possible problems. Types of problems that can be found include:
  • No global found (e.g., using a module without importing it)
  • Passing the wrong number of parameters to functions/methods/constructors
  • Using format strings that don't match arguments
  • Using class methods and attributes that don't exist
  • Changing signature when overriding a method
  • Redefining a function/class/method in the same scope
  • Using a variable before setting it
  • self is not the first parameter defined for a method
  • Unused globals and locals (module or variable)
  • Unused function/method arguments (can ignore self)
  • No doc strings in modules, classes, functions, and methods

Home - Robert M. Young What's New Search Feedback ... The Writings of Professor Robert M. Young 'The Naturalization of Value Systems in the Human Sciences' For some time I had been writing about the pervasive influence of functionalism across a wide range of disciplines. I was then invited by the Course Team to contribute a Unit to a new course on 'Science and Belief: from Darwin to Einstein', so I adapted my argument to that pedagogical context and mode of expression. The results is a rather odd mixture of critique and exposition, but I cannot recast it at this distance in time. It is, I think, my clearest expression of the critique of scientism, in particular, biologism, in the human sciences.
