The Tonkinese should give the overall impression of an alert, active cat with good muscular development. The cat should be surprisingly heavy. While the breed is considered medium in size, balance and proportion are of greater importance. HEAD AND MUZZLE: the head is a modified slightly rounded wedge somewhat longer than it is wide, with high gently planed cheekbones. The muzzle is blunt, as long as it is wide. There is a slight whisker break, gently curved, following the lines of the wedge. There is a slight stop at eye level. In profile the tip of the chin lines with the tip of the nose in the same vertical plane. There is a gentle rise from the tip of the nose to the stop. COLOR and MARKINGS GENERAL: the overall impression of the Manx cat is that of roundness; round head with firm, round muzzle and prominent cheeks; broad chest; substantial short front legs; short back which arches from shoulders to a round rump; great depth of flank and rounded, muscular thighs. The Manx should be alert, clear of eye, with a glistening, clean, well-groomed coat. They should be surprisingly heavy when lifted. Manx may be slow to mature and allowance should be made in young cats. HEAD and EARS: round head with prominent cheeks and a jowly appearance (more evident in adult males) that enhances the round appearance of the breed. In profile, head is medium in length with a gentle dip from forehead to nose. Well developed muzzle, very slightly longer than it is broad, with a strong chin. Definite whisker break with large, round whisker pads. Short, thick neck. Ears wide at the base, tapering gradually to a rounded tip. Medium in size in proportion to the head, widely spaced and set slightly outward. When viewed from behind, the ear set resembles the rocker on a cradle. The furnishings of the ears are sparse in Shorthair Manx and full furnishings for Longhair Manx.

Defines the breed standard for the Australian Cat Federation.
    http://www.acf.asn.au/Standards/European_shorthair.htm
    STANDARD FOR EUROPEAN SHORTHAIRS
    General

Definition: The European Shorthair cat can be compared to the kind of domestic cat which has developed naturally, i.e. without having been subjected to special rules for breeding. The ideal European Shorthair is presumed to be free of any admixture of other breeds. The breeding should be based on the fact that it is a robust and supple- cat which is not different, from the point of view of anatomy, from the European domestic cat. Body Medium to large in size, not cobby; robust, strong and muscular. Chest broad and well developed. Legs strong and sturdy, medium in length and narrowing into firm, round paws. Tail medium long, preferably rather thick at the base and tapering gradually to a rounded tip. Head Fairly broad; the face giving the impression of being round but a little longer than the breadth. Cheeks well developed; chin firm. Forehead and skull lightly rounded. The nose is straight, of medium length and uniformly broad throughout its length; where the nose joins the forehead must be clearly defined. Neck of medium length and muscular. Ears medium in size, slightly rounded at the tips and may be tufted at the tips; set well apart and fairly upright. The height of the ear corresponds to the width of the base. Eyes Eyes are round, widely separated and open, set slightly oblique. Colour may be orange, yellow or green; blue in white varieties; preferably green in silver varieties.

The breed has been established by crosses to British Shorthair and domestic cats in Scotland and England. In America, the outcross is the American and British Shorthair. All bona fide Scottish Fold cats trace their pedigree to Susie, the first fold-ear cat discovered by the founders of the breed, William and Mary Ross. HEAD: well rounded with a firm chin and jaw. Its husky, robust type is sometimes termed primitive, neither cobby nor classic. Though amply built, Chartreux are extremely supple and agile cats; refined, never coarse nor clumsy. Males are much larger than females and slower to mature. Coat texture, coat color and eye color are affected by sex, age and natural factors which should not penalize. The qualities of strength, intelligence and amenability, which have enabled the Chartreux to survive the centuries unaided, should be evident in all exhibition animals and preserved through careful selection.

It displays the look of an athletic animal: well-muscled and solid, graceful and lithe, yet with a fullness of body and chest. It is alert to its surroundings and shows great vitality. There are twelve accepted Ocicat colors divided into eight color classes with all specimens possessing darker spots which appear in deep contrast to a lighter background. The determining factor in answering any and all questions as to the correct color of an Ocicat will be the color of the tail tip without any comparison to the color of other body markings (see Ocicat colors). Each hair (except on the tip of tail) has several bands of color. It is where these bands fall together that a thumbprint shaped spot is formed. This powerful, athletic, yet graceful spotted cat is particularly noted for its "wild" appearance.

The conformation should be adapted for this with no part of the anatomy so exaggerated as to foster weakness. The general effect should be that of a strongly built, well balanced, symmetrical cat with conformation indicating power, endurance, and agility. SIZE: medium to large. No sacrifice of quality for the sake of size. Females may be less massive in all respects than males and should be rewarded equally if overall balance is correct.
