106. Bright Lights Film Journal | Vegas In Space
Review of the film by Gary Morris.
http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/17/08d_vegas.html
John Waters, Zsa Zsa Gabor, The Bad Seed,
BY GARY MORRIS Drag queen diva Doris Fish was a San Francisco institution before her death in 1991. Unlike most drag queens , who are quickly consigned to the dustbin of history when they die, Fish left a permanent camp legacy in the form of an 85-minute feature film, Vegas in Space (1991), produced and directed by Philip R. Ford. And, make no mistake, in spite of the presence of just about every ambulatory queen in San Francisco, this is as much her film as the director's. Not only did she star in it, she also co-wrote it (with Ford), designed the sets, costumes, miniatures, makeup, and hair. While its merit as cinema is dubious, Vegas in Space is the perfect epitaph for Miss Fish, and one of the larger nails in the coffin of camp. The film opens with a montage of gaudy images: a tinselly galaxy, neon marquees from Las Vegas, brightly colored miniature rocket ships on strings, and "the love theme from Vegas in Space." Inside one of the ships is Captain Dan Tracey (Fish) and his two lieutenants. They're headed for the all-woman planet Clitoris, but before they can land, they have to have sex changes. In the world of Vegas in Space , sex changes and radical beauty makeovers happen with the popping of a pill. So the Captain becomes the vixenish Tracey Daniels, and her male lieutenants (played by real women Ramona Fischer and Lori Naslund) become Sheila Shadows and Debbie Dane.

Report site problems here. Isometric Engine Removed!
By: jorrit on: Fri 04 of Jun, 2004 [09:54 UTC] (11 reads)
I finally bit the bullet and removed the iso engine. The old iso engine sources (and loader) are tagged with the ISO_OBSOLETE tag so you can get them back if you want. Note that I did NOT remove the 'isotest' application! Instead the isotest application has been rewritten to use the 3D engine and it 'simulates' isometric view only in the way that the camera moves. It does require new renderer though as it uses stencil shadows. So basically 'isotest' is still there but now with the 3D engine and a nicer map (check out a screenshot here! Yesterday I even attempted to revive the iso engine for the new renderer but when looking at the code again I finally decided it is too much work and gives us too much maintenance problems with no real benefit. 110. Canonical List Of Space Transportation Methods
Attempts to list all known space propulsion methods.
http://www.geocities.com/danielravennest/CanonicalList.html
Canonical List of
Space Transportation and Engineering Methods Version 0.79 July 26, 2001 by Dani Eder DaniEder@aol.com This document is a an attempt list of all known space transport and space engineering methods. It includes only those methods whose underlying physical principles are understood (i.e. no Star Trek warp drives). It is the product of a number of years of collecting and, occasionally, inventing them. I am motivated by a desire to see civilization expand into space and my frustration by the slow pace of progress to date. Most current space vehicles and projects use techniques that existed in the 1950's and 1960's. Some new ideas were developed as early as 1960, but have not been put into used even today. From the 1970's to today many additional ideas have been generated. Most of these have received scant attention. By disseminating information on these ideas, I hope others will realize the vast untapped potential contained in these ideas. This draft (version 0.79) lists all the concepts I am aware of, with at least a basic description of each. As you can tell by the version number, which is less than one, this is still very much a work in progress. Later versions of this document are intended to flesh out each method with improved descriptions and current references. If you know of a method which is not on this list, I would appreciate being informed of it. If you have references or text descriptions on a concept, they would be appreciated also. Some related information on the basics of space transport, the forces and energies used, and space project engineering are included. Editorial comments and material that needs lots of editing appear in square brackets.

Archives Articles Independent Developers ... Play Games! The Unofficial, Unexpurgurated, Unassuming Complete History of Sierra's Space Quest By Adam Rodman Back in 1985, Sierra On-Line was a small company based in Seattle that developed adventure games. After the surprising success of Roberta Williams' game, King's Quest, two of the Sierra members that had worked on it approached CEO Ken Williams with a proposition: could they make a humorous science-fiction adventure game based on the trials of an intergalactic janitor? Their names: Scott Murphy and Mark Crowe, a programmer and an artist, respectively. Ken was, to say the least, skeptical. So the two valiant programmers put together a demo, which would later become the first four levels of Space Quest 1: The Sarien Encounter. Scott programmed, Mark did the art, and Ken Williams absolutely loved the demo. In the mid-1980s, point-and-click games weren't even considered a possibility by developers. Graphic adventure games were little more than souped-up versions of text-only games.
