I've spent two days playing around with Soundtrack from Apple. It is a music composing program for movie soundtracks that allows non-musicians like myself to make real music. My brother (a real musician) played with it for 15 minutes and declared "I want this!"
I've put up my first two sample tracks on my new Music page.

How to make homemade PCBs

This page is a guide to producing consistently high quality PCBs quickly and efficiently, particularly for professional prototyping of production boards. Unlike most other PCB homebrew guides, emphasis is placed on quality, speed and repeatability rather than minimum materials cost, although the time saved by getting good PCBs every time usually saves money in the long run - even for the hobbyist, the cost of ruined PCB laminates can soon mount up!

Cool Robot Of The Week The honor of being listed as "Cool Robot Of The Week" is bestowed upon those robotics-related web sites which portray highly innovative solutions to robotics problems, describe unique approaches to implementing robotics system, or present exciting interfaces for the dissemination of robotics-related information or promoting robotics technology. This award carries absolutely no monetary value, official recognition, assumed support, or tangible benefit, other than swamping your web site with a few dozen extra hits for a week. But everyone else was putting up their "Cool Site Of The Millenia" lists, so we figured it was our turn too... This week's selection: Nov 10 RCS - Real-time Control Systems architecture, developed by NIST, complete with a library of free C++ and Java code, scripts, tools, makefiles, and documentation for use in real-time control systems. Previous Cool Nov 03 Player Stage - open source software devleopment tools for robot and sensor applications. The robot has now been incorporated into the "Telelabs" remote laboratories system. The user interface is simple, though new features will appear later in 2004. If the robot is not working, so come back in 2 - 3 days if the system does not respond. Be patient - we only have volunteers. The new system requires registration and will be restricted to users with genuine needs. In the meantime, look at what others have created.... here , and look at some high resolution photos of the robot and the lab here (like the one on the left: click on it to get a full-size image). Our Java interface has now closed down: it ran for 4 years. The Java software creator, Barney Dalton , now works for RadioSpace in the UK. His thesis is available here (8.25 Mbytes PDF download). We have opportunities for students to work in our lab and some limited funding is available for these projects. For further details see our study opportunity pages. We will try and keep the robot on-line as much as we can. This project has demonstrated some fabulous advances in using the web for remote control. We estimate that as many as 500,000 people controlled the robots here between 1994 and 2000. The original inventor of the telerobot
