Petroleum Engineering Petroleum Engineering is a specialized discipline whose graduates are prepared primarily for vocations in the oil and natural gas industry and its related operations. Major oil and gas companies continue to hire Petroleum Engineering graduates from Marietta College for full-time employment at starting salaries as high as $55,000 per year. Why are these companies recruiting our graduates? For many reasons. Marietta is the only small, private liberal arts college in the U.S. that offers a degree in Petroleum Engineering. The liberal arts component of the curriculum places a strong emphasis on the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills within a global and societal context. Our students flourish by taking advantage of opportunities to take courses in leadership studies or by studying abroad for a semester. And, because we have no graduate program, our staff is entirely devoted to teaching undergraduate students. The Petroleum Engineering program is accredited by ABET. It provides students with a well-rounded background in the areas of drilling, production and reservoir engineering.

Australian School of Petroleum at The University of Adelaide is now:
  • The largest petroleum-focused university program in the Southern Hemisphere, with about 30 full-time staff, 100 undergraduate students and more than 50 postgraduate students. One of only a few institutions in the world offering fully integrated teaching and research programs covering petroleum geoscience, engineering and management. One of three universities in the world with its own research and teaching well located next to its building. Exclusive holder of the NExT (Network of Excellence in Training) franchise for the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East. The location of the Schlumberger/ASP Research and Training Suite. The site of the South Australian Virtual Reality Centre. One of four Australian university nodes of the CO2 Co-operative Research Centre. The two main discipline emphases - engineering and geoscience - involve two Executive Deans, one from the Faculty of Sciences and the other from the Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, working with the Head of School in its overall management to ensure that academic requirements are fully met in each key discipline. On a daily basis, specific discipline matters within the ASP are supervised by two Discipline Leaders appointed as specialist academics in geosciences and in engineering and management.

Application of sound engineering principles leveraged by powerful technology is the key to EPS' AIM-GAIN-SUSTAIN process for production optimization. Now proven around the world, the three-stage process automates daily production engineering tasks formerly performed manually. The AIM (Asset Inspection Methodology) phase defines and prioritizes asset opportunities and builds a business case for implementation. During the GAIN phase, well and surface network models are built and recommendations are made to increase uptime and improve deliverability. At its heart is the intelligent online daily operations system that continuously optimizes well and surface network parameters to improve asset performance and deliver early paybacks. The production increase in the AIM and GAIN phases funds the SUSTAIN stage, where new production optimization technology is implemented, processes are fine-tuned, and people are trained to sustain profitability over the asset's life.
