Minor in Petroleum Engineering
This minor is available to all undergraduate engineers who want an opportunity to obtain a minor in another field of engineering.
The successful completion of the four following courses is required for the Minor. A cumulative QPA of 2.0 must be achieved for these courses in order for the student to be awarded the Minor in Chemical Engineering. The student must receive a passing grade (D- or higher) in all courses to receive the minor. If the student receives a failing or incomplete grade in any of the courses (e.g. F,G,I) the minor will not be granted, even if the overall QPA is greater than 2.0. These courses would have to be completed or taken over and passed prior to the student receiving the minor.
Requirements
The minor consists of four courses and has a total of 12 credits.
The prerequisites for the minor include ChE 0035, Intro to ChE, and Math 0250, Differential Equations and Matrices.

Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top Petroleum engineers search the world for reservoirs containing oil or natural gas. Once these resources are discovered, petroleum engineers work with geologists and other specialists to understand the geologic formation and properties of the rock containing the reservoir, determine the drilling methods to be used, and monitor drilling and production operations. They design equipment and processes to achieve the maximum profitable recovery of oil and gas. Petroleum engineers rely heavily on computer models to simulate reservoir performance using different recovery techniques. They also use computer models for simulations of the effects of various drilling options. Because only a small proportion of oil and gas in a reservoir will flow out under natural forces, petroleum engineers develop and use various enhanced recovery methods. These include injecting water, chemicals, gases, or steam into an oil reservoir to force out more of the oil, and computer-controlled drilling or fracturing to connect a larger area of a reservoir to a single well. Because even the best techniques in use today recover only a portion of the oil and gas in a reservoir, petroleum engineers research and develop technology and methods to increase recovery and lower the cost of drilling and production operations.

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at KU offers the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in both chemical and petroleum engineering. For students who desire to continue their studies, the department offers the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in either chemical or petroleum engineering as well as the undesignated Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the School of Engineering. The Chemical Engineering program offers undergraduates the opportunity to focus their studies in the environmental, biomedical, or pre-medical options as well as the standard chemical engineering curriculum. A formal curriculum is also available for students who wish to alternate academics and work experience in the Co-Op program. The undergraduate programs in chemical and petroleum engineering provide a foundation that enables a graduate to pursue a professional engineering career. For those who want a deeper academic understanding of these branches of engineering or who plan to work in research or development, graduate programs at the master's and doctoral levels are available. The department offers the M.S. degree in the fields of chemical engineering and petroleum engineering. In addition, the Ph.D. degree in the School of Engineering may be earned in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.

Announcements Students Online released! All students are being given a login name corresponding to their roll number and a random password. Each student can collect these from the Communications Systems Research Lab by showing their university ID cards from Tuesday, 1st June onwards for a period of 1 month after which all unused accounts will be discarded and no further requests entertained.
All students(session 2000 and above) who have e-mail accounts on the UET domain are advised to shift all important e-mails to secondary e-mail accounts and to discontinue usage of their UET e-mail accounts. This is done in lieu of the release of Students Online this Saturday when each student will automatically be given a new e-mail account.
All teachers in charge of various student clubs are requested to direct one or more members of the club under their charge to develop websites pertaining to their club/society. FTP accounts will be supplied to all such teachers in the near future.

Petroleum Engineering Department University of Miskolc Hungary Welcome to the homepage of the direct descendant to the World's First Mining School founded at the Hungarian mining town Selmecbánya in 1735. Although the 50-year life of the Petroleum Engineering Department is like a blink of the eye in the 260-year long history of the Mining School, we are proud to present our achievements on the World-Wide-Web The Petroleum Engineering Department of the University of Miskolc is the only institution in Hungary offering Petroleum Engineering programs. It has been training capable petroleum engineering graduates since 1951 and has awarded more than 650 M.S. degrees so far. Graduates work in all sectors of the Hungarian petroleum and gas industry and in many of the oil producing countries of the world. More than ten years ago the Department started offering graduate programs in English for international students. Curricula are comparable to those offered by leading US schools and provide students comprehensive engineering and advanced courses. The Department shares two floors with the Department of Natural Gas Engineering in one of the biggest buildings on the Miskolc University Campus . Total office space, including laboratories, is over 10,000 sq. ft. Laboratories support course work and research in core and fluid analysis, drilling fluids and crude oil rheology, and well control. Students have access to a variety of computers for course work and research, both on and off campus. Two test wells (250 ft. Total Depth) with fluid loops serve to introduce students to well operations.
