THE SINGULARITY
SINGULARITY - Sometimes referred to as "the Singularity" "The postulated point or short period in our future when our self-guided evolutionary development accelerates enormously (powered by nanotechnology, neuroscience, AI, and perhaps uploading) so that nothing beyond that time can reliably be conceived." Anders Sandberg
Some 20 to 140 years from now—depending on which evolutionary or systems theorist, computer scientist, technology studies scholar, or futurist you happen to agree with—the rate of self-catalyzing, self-organizing, ever more autonomous (human-independent) technological change in our local environment will undergo a "singularity," becoming effectively instantaneous from the perspective of current biological humanity. It has been postulated that events after this point must also be "future-incomprehensible" to existing humanity, though we disagree. Singularity Watch
Our definition: When technology advances to the stage that we can no longer predict the ramifications. The time when social, political, cultural, technical, and/or religious preconceptions no longer apply. The break between what we know and what we cannot fathom. An eventor eventsthat cause massive change in the very fabric of our human-ness. Generally thought to foreshadow across-the-board positive changes, yielding many advances in science, longevity, survival of the species, social responsibility, and the like. Also considered evolutionary as in the next stage of human development.

Welcome to NanoMEMS Research LLC
Let's Seize the Future...Today !
Mission: RF MEMS and Nanotechnology Research, Consulting, and Education
Overview:

Long term : We engage in fundamental Research and Development of concepts surrounding the "new electronics" paradigm enabled by exploiting NanoMEMS (the merging of nanoelectronics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)), brought about by advances in nanotechnology (the methods and tools to fabricate nanoscale device structures). In this context, we target the conception of paradigms to produce the hardware that will be at the core of the computers (e.g., mainframes, personal computers, laptops, PDAs, etc.) and wireless communications appliance (e.g., cell phones, satellites, etc.) of the future.
Also, whenever consistent with our mission, we selectively offer integrated research, design, and prototyping services.

Ted Kaehler
It is my firm belief that you came here to receive a gift from me, so I hope you find entertainment and value on these pages. I work for Applied Minds, and live in Las Vegas, NV. The first part of my e-address is: ted-pb and the second part is legenda.com The new disease SARS is perhaps the most serious public health crisis since the flu of 1918. I am so grateful to the public health workers around the world who have defeated SARS. I have produced a page with a Graph of SARS Cases over time. It includes an estimate of doubling time for cases and deaths. Las Vegas has a very high rate of car accidents. Here are my thoughts on why Squeak is for kids. Our new site, SqueakLand.org has dozens of "projects" you can play with, right in your web browser. What is Squeak ? A Smalltalk system that gets back to the original idea you control the bits all the way down. Write your own new classes. The methods (programs) you add have all the priviledges and powers of system methods. Read how everything in the system works. Modify the base system whenever you want. Most other programming systems have a core set of routines that you can't see and you can't modify. Squeak includes a working model of its entire "virtual machine". These are all of the underlying programs that make Squeak work. You can read them and see how they work, and run them in simulation. If you find a bug or want to change how something works, you have the power to create a new virtual machine. The virtual machine that comes with Squeak was made by translating the model directly to "C". Squeak has been ported to many kinds of computers. It also lets you to do things like add music synthesis, and 3D graphics as we did recently.

Welcome to AcceleratingFuture.com!
This website is an information resource on the possible philosophical, moral, and societal implications of probable near-future technologies, and the huge opportunities they might offer to human flourishing, if utilized wisely. Central topics include accelerating change, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, intelligence enhancement, the Singularity, and existential risks. Very likely, you've heard of or used modern technologies such as broadband internet, personal digital assistants, biotech, and Wi-Fi networks. However, these technologies are relatively weak in comparison to other advances the near future is likely to bring. Sophisticated nanotechnology and nanomedicine, fully immersive virtual reality, synthetic life, brain-computer interfaces, and genuine artificial intelligence could become technologically possible before 2050, if not earlier, with massive, global consequences.
This unintuitive result is partially due to the fact that technological and scientific progress are not proceeding linearly, but at a

116. The New Atlantis - The Nanotechnology Revolution - Adam Keiper
The nanotechnology Revolution. nanotechnology got going in the second half of thetwentieth century, although a few scientists had done related work earlier.
http://www.thenewatlantis.com/archive/2/keiper.htm
The Nanotechnology Revolution Adam Keiper he English chemist John Dalton first proposed the scientific theory of the atom two hundred years ago. Since then we have seen chemists come to understand the elements and their interactions, we have seen engineers make and use new materials to improve our lives, we have seen physicists demonstrate that even atoms are divisible, and we have seen warriors unleash the power of the atomic nucleus. In these two centuries we have amassed an enormous understanding of—and wielded an increasing control over—the fundamental units of matter. The Hulk and The Tuxedo ), books (including last year’s Michael Crichton bestseller, Prey ), video games (such as the “Metal Gear Solid” series), and television (most notably in various incarnations of Star Trek). Yet there remains a great deal of confusion about just what nanotechnology is, both among the ordinary people whose lives will be changed by the new science, and among the policymakers who wittingly or unwittingly will help steer its course. Unsurprisingly, some of the confusion is actually caused by the increased attention—sensationalistic reporting and creative license have done little to prepare society for the hard decisions that the development of nanotechnology will make necessary.
