Bachelor of Sport Coaching
The Bachelor of Sport Coaching (BSpC) is a full- (or part-) time equivalent three year programme that provides a basis for people who are interested in sport and the coaching of sport. The BSpC offers a balanced degree with an emphasis on the art, science and pedagogy of sport coaching. We emphasise an athlete-centred approach whereby coaches are trained to provide opportunities for learning in the sport context. The programme provides a unique experience, whereby students have supervised coaching practice with clubs and schools in the community. Students are required to complete a minimum of 360 credits to gain the Bachelor of Sport Coaching, with at least 80 credits at level 7. The BSpC currently consists of 24 compulsory and 13 optional courses but there will be a revised spread of courses in 2005 as a result of the current review of the degree. The first year of the degree provides foundation courses in exercise science and social science and an introduction to coaching study and practice. Year two focuses on the development of coaching/teaching skills, further development of sport and social science knowledge, and the practical application of both in Coaching Practice.
The final year of the degree continues to focus on ensuring that professional development and practice of coaching/teaching skills are established. The programme provides a number of optional papers to allow students to specialise in chosen areas of study. The learning outcomes in the final year ensures students are grounded in critical analysis and research inquiry.

http://www.soct.org/sports/coaches.shtml
Sports Programs The Importance of Hydration in Training and Competitions Athletes and coaches are often concerned about replacing salt lost in sweat. However, a more important concern is the amount of fluid lost during physical activity.
Why are fluids important?
Fluids regulate body temperature and help prevent heat sickness during physical exercise. Dehydration is a major cause of poor performance and fatigue during activity. Water is also important for carrying oxygen and nutrients to cells and for transporting waste products from the body.
Should an athlete drink only when thirsty?
If an athlete drinks water only when thirsty, it may not be adequate to prevent dehydration. During exercise, the body can lose much more fluid than is safe. For example, long-distance runners may have sweat off 6-10 percent of their total body weight (an 8-15 pound loss for a 150-pound athlete). It is important to drink small amounts of water (one-half to one cup) every 20-30 minutes during exercise. Drinking large amounts of water at one time may lead to stomach cramps.
What is the best fluid to drink?
