Philosophy of Sport at YIS Yokohama International School is committed to offering a wide range of sport activities designed to stimulate and develop the interests of every participant. It is the aim of the extra-curricular sports programme to foster the comprehensive development of all student-athletes. At Middle School level, the emphasis is on maximum participation, where effort and enthusiasm are rewarded alongside physical prowess. Players are encouraged to develop a long-standing enjoyment of competitive sports. They will begin to develop specific sports-related skills and learn to apply these to games situations. At High School level the emphasis is on preparing the athletes for more competitive situations and striving for excellence in all areas. Each athlete is required to develop an even stronger sense of personal responsibility and commitment. All players at this age are expected to take on responsibility, demonstrate their self-sufficiency, show positive leadership skills, emotional control, mental toughness, trust and be a good role model to the younger student-athletes. All student-athletes will be expected to demonstrate appropriate levels of respect through good sportsmanship, co-operation, punctuality, attendance, drive and team/school spirit.

Comments I read the same article earlier today and posted on my blog about it. Interesting that you added more weight to my suspicions that to be a professional philosopher you have to love the activity as much as you care about the truth. Or am I reading it wrong? But Steve MacManaman? You must be a Liverpool fan. Posted by jdsm Tom Stoppard probed the connections between philosophy and acrobatics in Jumpers. Posted by Ruth So Chris, are you trying to tell us that most of the papers you read just tend to peter out in the last third and then either never really go anywhere or make a monumentally misguided stab which misses its target completely? Posted by dsquared No, that goal against Celtic in the UEFA cup a few years back is more what I had in mind. Posted by Chris Bertram Followups
Excerpt: Chris Bertram: Sometimes, when I’m reading or listening to a paper which excites me with its novelty and brilliance, perhaps because it contains some really elegant move, a mental image comes into my head of Steve McManaman running with the ball, circa...

About the Instructors About Kendo Calendar Forum ... Gallery Welcome to the Hutt Kendo Club The Hutt Kendo Club was opened on the 4th of May, 2001. Since then it has consolidated and now has from 20 - 30 members depending on what time of year you visit. We have been a member of the NZ Kendo Federation since 2001 and in 2003 Sue Lytollis, one of our instructors, was elected secretary of the NZKF. We like to do demonstrations in the Hutt region to share our learning and spread understanding of Japanese culture and always welcome new beginners from 7 years old and upwards. Hutt has been forming an important relationship with its Sister City Minoh (near Osaka). The Mayor of Minoh, Mr. Kajita, and his officials have been trying to find bogu for the club and in July, 2001, a group of Minoh school students presented the Hutt with several adult-size bogu and several for children. Hutt has featured teams in the annual Rembuden Taikai since 2001. This is a great opportunity for our members to gain experience in the competitive aspect of kendo. In the first inter-club match at South Wellington Intermediate June 8, 2002 Hutt Kendo Club A team took the gold in the team event and also gained a silver (Jason) and a bronze (Dan) in the individuals after some hard fighting.
