You have to finish a minimum of two races. If you do run all eight races, only your highest five scores will count in the series. Your age group for the series, will be the age you are on the last race you run in the series. The race directors and the data keeper for the series, will only have the information from your individual race application to gather this information.
  • Scoring System: The scoring will be based on performance and distance and of course participation. The winning time for the race will be divided by the runner’s time and that percentage will be multiplied by 31 for the 50KM races, by 35 for the Peterson Ridge Rumble, by 50 if you run the PCT 50 Mile race, and by 62 if you run Where's Waldo.

My Most Unforgettable Ultramarathon (And What I Learned From It)
By
Doug Kurtis
of PIETERMARITZBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, June 16, 1997Some 30 miles into the famed Comrades Marathon in South Africa I was already in trouble. I had just run the toughest marathon of my life, and I still had 25 miles to go. Three questions went through my mind. Should I quit, or should I stick it out and finish? Can I finish? And how could I have prepared myself differently for this arduous and heart-breaking event? In retrospect, I thought I had done all the right things. In January I decided that Comrades would be my initiation into the World of Ultras. I had six months to prepare. Six months to research the event, make travel plans, set up contacts, and seek out the advice of ultra experts. I'd been thinking about doing an ultra for several years. I had run back-to-back marathons and as many as four marathons in five weeks. I thought I would be a natural for ultras. When Alberto Salazar won Comrades in 1994, I figured that his competition must have been soft. He hadn't won a marathon in many years. Since I was still doing well in my marathons at age 45, I believed I was capable of finishing in the lead pack. What I didn't realize was that prize money wasn't offered at Comrades until 1995, and with the arrival of prize money, the competition always gets tougher.
Running Through the Internet
My Comrades research began on the Internet. The Comrades Marathon has one of the best web sites of any race in the world. I found course maps, an entry form, hotel and restaurant information, and a history of the race, including a list of all past winners dating back to 1921. I made contact with several ultrarunners who had completed the race, and all of them told me that this was by far the best ultra to run.

Ultramarathon man
I keep forgetting to mail this SF Weekly article to Rob and Shannon, and now I have no computer of my own so I can't, so here it is. This is the article about the guy who runs ultramarathons all the time. He runs all the time. I don't think this guy sleeps, unless he falls asleep while running, which he's done. He runs between 85 and 120 miles a week. Either he runs at 4 a.m., before taking his 9-year-old daughter Alexandria to school, or after he puts her and his 6-year-old son Nicholas to bed at night. On weekends, he often runs from his home in lower Pacific Heights across the Golden Gate Bridge, up to the top of Mount Tamalpais, down to Stinson Beach, and back home again a distance of 43 miles. Yeah, guess I really shouldn't sweat the 3 to 5 milers so much, huh? There are a couple of runs Rob and Shannon have mentioned doing that involve long distances up the sides of mountains. I suspect they're nuts.

Registered in the Club register of the civic court in Vienna Under the registration number VR Preamble The problem of distribution of resources in the world forecludes an increase in poverty and sickness and this is forgotten. The poorest and neediest regions however, repeatedly organise marathon events, which shall fight the needs which poverty produces. WHMF wants to make it their mandate to support these events.
The mission of these events shall be supported by WHMF, in that the member countries of WHMF will be motivated to send runners to these events. The WHMF takes on the responsibility of organising the participants and supports the logistics of the events, if this is needed and wished for. WHMF is non-political and represents only assignments.

RAMROD (Ride Around Mount Rainier in One Day) Cycling Ultramarathon

This summer brings the 19th annual RAMROD bicycle ride, sponsored by the Redmond Cycling Club of Washington . This year, 728 registered entrants will tackle this 155-mile loop around Mount Rainier. With 10,000 total feet of climbing, this challenging course winds through spectacular mountain scenery in Mt. Rainier National Park
Riders enter at the Park's Nisqually Entrance 61 miles into the ride, and then shortly begin the 12-mile ascent to Paradise Park on the southern slope of Mt. Rainier. At 5420 feet, Paradise is the highest point on the course. From there, riders descend through Stevens Canyon, then continue up over Backbone Ridge. The swooping five-mile descent from Backbone Ridge takes riders to the Grove of the Patriarchs , a magnificent lowland forest of Douglas fir, western hemlock, and western red cedar. The final major ascent, over Cayuse Pass (4694 feet), comes over 100 miles into the ride. Riders finish back where they started at the Enumclaw WA fairgrounds, with the exhilaration of accomplishment and a day in the great outdoors as their reward.

Home Archive September 7, 2001 NATIONAL ULTRAMARATHON CHAMPION LEADS TEAM CANADA AT WORLDS Master Warrant Officer Vic Hickey came in 36th out of 556 competitors at the World 100km Ultramarathon Challenge with a time of 7:25:38.
SEPTEMBER 7 - Canada's top ultramarathon runner, Master Warrant Officer Victor Hickey of CFB Gagetown came in at the front of the pack at this year's Ultramarathon World Challenge held in Cleder France on August 26. He finished first among the Canadian contingent and 36 th out of 554 world's top long-distance runners. The Canadian Forces (CF) 1999 Male Athlete of the Year finished the 100 km event with a time of 7:25:38 - 27 minutes over his personal best, but one he is extremely proud of given the hot and muggy weather and the hilly course. "I was feeling good at the start of the race and was in 6th spot at the 30 km mark," says Hickey. "But at the 60 km mark I hit the wall and started to feel stiff and lethargic. It took me 15 km to climb out of it. Determined to post a good result, the 44-year-old athlete beared down for the last 25 km, regained his strength and began to advance on one competitor after another. He attributed his ability to overcome the pain and keep running to his pride in representing Canada. "I didn't want to let anyone down," he said simply. "You work so hard to get to this elite level, to get to this point and qualify for the national team and represent team Canada. Barring a serious injury, nothing would stop me from crossing that finish line."

    History
On November 10, 1975, the 26,000-ton ore carrier named the Edmund Fitzgerald disappeared from the radar screen of the Arthur M. Anderson. The sinking of the carrier has caused considerable stir and controversy over many years. Just recently, a dive ship from the Woods Hole Institute in Massachusetts sent a dive probe to the 610-foot grave of the Edmund Fitz. Remarkable the ship is preserved as if it were still 1975. The site is considered the grave of the 29 men who went down with their ship. Over the years, Gordon Lightfoot has kept the memory of the men and the wreck alive through his song, The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald , an eerie ballad of that fateful night in November.
    The Race
The Race, The Edmund Fitzgerald 100K has become as famous as its namesake has. Since 1982, the event has seen the greatest runners in the World tackle the challenging point to point course. The World Cup was held on this course in 1990 where 17 counties from all over the World sent teams of solo runners to compete for the gold. The team event was added in 1983 when it became clear that you need a critical mass of participants to support a 100K point to point event. To this day, the team relay has become one of the most popular fall events in the upper Midwest. The team competition can vary from intense to casual but everyone has a lot of fun.
