It is a team game involving three players per side and the object is to volley the woven ball over the net into the opponents court using any part of the body except the hands or arms. Each team is allowed three contacts with the ball to get it over the net. Unlike the similar game concept of volleyball, in takraw on player may take more than one contact consecutively.Points are scored by the serving team, and points are gained if the opposing side fails to return the ball over the net, or a winning shot is played whereby the ball lands in the opponents court. The length of the game varies - there is no time limit. Matches are won by winning 2 out of 3 sets. To win a set, one team must reach 15 points. In 1996, ISTAF changed the rule so that no extra margin or extra points are played - the set is played straight and the first team to reach 15 points wins the set. The third set, if necessary is played to only 6 points and is referred to as a "tie-breaker". Regu (single team) A Regu consists of 4 players, but only three may be on the court at one time. Each "Regu" must have an appointed captain.

Wir spielen Sepak Takraw - die schnellste Ballsportart der Welt Sepak Takraw ist eine vor allem in Asien weit verbreitete und sehr populäre Ballsportart. Wir, eine Gruppe von Kölner Studenten, betreiben diesen Sport seit mehreren Jahren im Rahmen des Hochschulsports der Kölner Universitäten und Fachhochschulen. Wir wurden 2002 vom Sepak Takraw Dachverband (ISTAF) zur 17. Sepak Takraw WM (auch King's Cup genannt) nach Bangkok eingeladen und waren die erste europäische Mannschaft, die es schaffte eine Medaille - und zwar die Silberne in der Newcomer Gruppe - zu gewinnen. Selbstredend wurden wir 2003 wieder vom der ISTAF zur 18. Weltmeisterschaft in Phatthalung im Juni eingeladen. Dieses Turnier konnten wir auch wieder erfolgreich mit der Bronzemedaille bestreiten, wobei uns das Verletzungspech und eine knappe Niederlage im Halbfinale gegen Kambodscha ein besseres Abschneiden verwehrten. Wir haben gerade einen Verein gegründet - "Takraw-Cologne 03 e.V."

SEPAK TAKRAW (Kick Volleyball) Through the ‘96/’97 to ‘98/’99 school years Sepaktakraw has been "introduced" to over 60 Saskatchewan schools by ASEC International, which is now Saskatchewan’s official Active Member organization to STAC. Students from about grade 6 or 7 and up have no problem catching on to the sport - and once they try it, they are usually crazy about it! One teacher commented, "All they want to do now is play Takraw, in Phys. Ed., at noon for intramurals and after school! They’re hooked!" The intricacy and speed with which it is played are astonishing, and if you think your reflexes are better than average, consider these methods of sending the ball aloft: the sole kick (using the arch or sole of the foot), the instep kick, knee kick, shin kick, shoulder kick, or head kick. Want to try the crosslegged jump kick? The player crosses his left leg over his right above the right knee, and then leaps into the air kicking the ball with his right knee. But that's not all. One can use elbows, shoulders, even the posterior. The more complicated and impressive your feats, the better your score (Or, if a score is not being kept, the better your audience's reaction: spectators can be demanding, if not downright ruthless, in their judgements.)
