When the snow hits the ground in New Mexico, there's more to do than just ski or snowboard to make your way through our beautiful forests and mountains. Snowmobiling, dogsledding, and snowshoeing all offer ways for you to take to the hills in winter and enjoy New Mexico off the beaten trail.
Snowmobiling:
Set out for your outdoor adventure in a variety of snowmobile friendly areas across our state. Snowmobiles are permitted in the Carson National Forest in the northern part of the state, and in certain areas around Red River and Angel Fire, as well as around the Ski Apache resort in Lincoln County. The Chama area - near the Colorado border - promises huge bowls and rolling country just below 10,000-foot Cumbres Pass. Other areas include Eagle Nest, the Jemez Mountains, Mount Taylor near Grants, and Cloudcroft to the southeast. Depending on where you go, there are trails and/or guided tours to assist you in your travels.
