158. Kachoom's Show-jumping Zone!!
A look into the life of a showjumper and her horses.
http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Dugout/7159/
You have arrived at The Zone
(you must have taken a wrong turn somewhere) But, just in case you really are interested in taking a look at my little piece of the Internet: Enter **A few things you should know before you come in:
  • First of all, for those of you who are wondering, yes, this is a great substitute for having an actual life.
  • This site uses a lot of graphics, and some of you might find that it takes a little long to load. I won't change things though, because if you're willing to wait, I think it's worth it. Have patience, little ones.
  • On the Features and Let's Get Interactive sections, I use image maps, so please let them load all the way - otherwise, you'll wind up with big, useless blobs of nothing, instead of the snappy cutting-edge navigation systems you're supposed to have : ). Don't worry, they come up pretty quickly, so you won't have to sit around for aeons, waiting for the things to take shape.
  • This page is best viewed with a 4.0 or newer browser and a 800 x 600 screen resolution. Lower version browsers make the link colors look like crap and may cause a margin or two to, well, go a little wonky. A 640 x 480 resolution will look okay on some sections, while you'll have to scroll for miles on others.
  • And lastly, please

Competing in College
By: Jennifer Hoggle and Rebecca Deen
Director of Equine Science
Many college bound riders have nightmares about long hours of studying behind a desk piled high with books. Long hours spent at the barn are now occupied in front of a computer or in the library. Students get so busy with academics that they may not be aware that their school is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association. The IHSA provides students with a unique college experience. Students can take part in riding activities, enjoy fellowship with other horse loving team members, and gain horsemanship experiences at challenging levels. The goal of the IHSA is to provide college riders with the opportunity to ride and compete regardless of financial status. Horse showing is an expensive sport, but the IHSA has narrowed the margin of expense for college teams by requiring host schools to provide equipment and horses. Students do not have to own a horse in order to take part in IHSA activities. In fact, competitors are not allowed to ride personal horses or use personal tack. The Host College provides horses and tack. The only requirement is the rider must provide his or her own riding attire. Competitors compete for points on many different levels. Once a designated number of points has been won, the rider moves to a higher division. Levels range from Beginner Walk/Trot through the Open Classes, which can also include reining or jumping competitions. Coaches select one rider from each level to be the point rider. The points earned by this rider are used to calculate team points for regional, zone, and national qualifications, as well as rankings at the individual shows. Riders gain experience and encourage each other as a team.
