Current information about dressage, show jumping, events, results, news and updates.
http://www.perthhorseandponyclub.com
Perth Horse and Pony Club is proudly sponsored by Horseland, your local friendly horse gear and country clothing store. Perth Horse and Pony Club is one of the oldest pony clubs in Perth and the only one left in the inner city area. Founded in 1959 we have grown from small beginnings in Osborne Park, moving to grounds in what is now Hasler Avenue, then Carine Open Space to our present grounds in Jon Sanders Drive in 1989. We are proud to think that our beautiful lakeside setting is one of the best in Perth. The Club has always been a combination of Pony Club for children and Adult Riding Club, all our gymkhanas are "Open" and all riders are always welcome to come and enjoy their sport with us. We pride ourselves in being a true family club and are not affiliated with the EFA meaning that anyone can ride at our gymkhanas( as long as they have a horse to ride !!) Our Pony Club riders have always been extremely active and competitive in spite of their relatively small numbers, often bringing home the honours from events they have competed in against other larger Pony Clubs. Our rallies are extremely educational and thoroughly enjoyed by the children. The clubhouse on our grounds was completed in 1989 and various fund raising activities have since enable us to construct an equipment shed, wash bays, swabbing box and measuring bay.

Show jumping
This article should be merged with show-jumping Show jumping is a form of competition in which horses are jumped over a course of fences, low walls, and other obstacles (e.g., water-filled ditches or troughs). The horses are allowed a certain number of refusals, but 3 fault points are added to their score for each one. If they take more than the time allowed for the course, they earn 1/4 fault for each extra second. For every pole that is knocked down, 4 faults are earned. The final rankings are based on the lowest number of points accumulated. In case of a draw, the horse with the fastest time ranks higher. The History Of Showjumping Showjumping is a relativly new equine sport. Until the enclosures act which came into force in England in the eighteenth century there had been no need for a horse to jump fencesa as there had been none. But with this act of parliament came new challenges for those followers of fox hounds. The enclosures act brought fencing and boundaries to many parts of the country as common ground was dispersed amoungst the wealthy landowners. This meant that those wishing otoo pursue their sport now needed horses which were capable of jumping these obstacles. At this time, the principle cavalry schools of Europe at Pinerolo and Tor-di-Quinto in Italy, the French school in Saumur and the Spanish school in Vienna preferred to use a backward seat when jumping for safety purposes with long length stirrups. Whilst the Italian Instructor Captain Fiederico Caprilli heavily influenced the forward seat with his ideas that the forward position would not impede the balance of the horse negotiating obstacles. It is this latter style which is commonly used today.

Show Jumping
Show jumping competitions take place either indoors or outdoors over artificial fences that fall down easily if knocked. Most competitions are held over at least two rounds. In the first, the aim is to jump the course within the time allowed (which is not fast) without knocking down any fences. Those who go clear, will then jump-off, over a course that may be shortened in length or increased in height, to decide a winner - if more than one goes clear, the competition may be decided on the fastest time - or there may be a second jump-off. Show jumping is run under the rules of the governing organisation that is affiliated to the national body represented on the Fédéderation Equestre Internationale (FEI) - in the UK, the British Show Jumping Association. Shows must run as 'affiliated' shows if the results are to be taken into consideration for horses' grading. There are unaffiliated shows and classes run at local level for newcomers to the sport.

Welcome...
To probably the largest village show in England. The Agricultural Show forms party of Heckington's 900 year old Feast Week Tradition. Linked to the feast of St Mary Magdalene who was the patron saint of the church that existed before St Andrews was built. The first show was held in 1864 and moved to its current site in 1867, at the invitation of William Little, and has been invited back by his family ever since. The show is run by Heckington and District Agricultural Society, a voluntary charity [Registered Nº: 507328.] This great traditional show provides a focal point for village life - a chance to meet old friends and to make new ones - Lincolnshire's village show. Why people keep coming to Heckington Show: "It's great... lots to see and do". "A friendly and welcoming atmosphere".
