Ringette
Multicultural Games by Pooja, Jaryn Germantown Academy 6th grade State the name of your game and why you chose it. The name of our game is Ringette. List the countries where it is played and its origin. It was invented in 1963 in Ontario. It is played in Canada, Finland, USA and Sweden. Describe how your game is played. State the object of the game. Clearly describe the rules.
  • The object of this game is to control the ring while moving it down the floor to score goals in the opposing team's net. You have a team of 5 players (4 plus l goalie). One of the teams starts with the ring. They must pass it to someone over the blue line. When you receive a ring you go straight to a circle. You have 5 seconds in the circle to pass the ball or make a goal.
List the equipment needed.
  • This game is played on ice. The ring is made out of rubber and about l" thick and 4" wide. You use straight sticks much like a field hockey stick upside down.
Make recommendations for what type of athlete would enjoy playing this game. What skills does it demand? Pooja: This game is an excellent way to develop skating skills for the beginning skater. It is a non-contact sport. This game is a combination of hockey, soccer and basketball. Ringette is primarily for girls and women of all ages to compete. The game develops strong motor skills, team play and coordination.

Currently one of the fastest growing ice sports in the world, Ringette now has over 60,000 players participating in Canada alone. Primarily played by females, this non-contact, fast paced sport has been a breeding ground for current and future national team hockey players.
Played on a regulation size hockey rink, wearing normal hockey equipment (except for the pants), this sport focuses heavily on skating, passing and team play. Where it differentiates itself from hockey is that ringette sticks do not have blades and an 8" hollow rubber ring replaces a hockey puck. Because of the straight stick and hollow ring, a greater emphasis and focus is placed on the skating ability of the player. Thus, making this sport much more attractive to the younger players and their quick development in this key skill area. TOP

The game of hockey and ringette is comprised of several intricate skills which, when combined together create a highly skilled athlete.
Trying to develop the skills without the foundation of skating efficiently is pretty well an impossible job.
Skating is the most important fundamental on which everything is built.
Over the past twenty-five years, Donna has accumulated drills from her work in hockey and ringette schools, from observing and helping other coaches practices, from courses, books, video resources, her own innovations and experiences.
The power skating programs that Donna develops and teaches are specific skills that relate to the age and level of the individual skater.
If you improve your skating you improve your game!
