It was the easiest game-winning RBI Roby Anderson has ever delivered. It certainly was the biggest. Anderson drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday night to give Covington a dramatic 11-10 win over Seymour in a TSSAA Class AA baseball losers' bracket game.

North St. Paul softball: Eye on the prize
North St. Paul's players were eating pizza instead of scrimmaging against defending Class 3A champion Eastview. That tuneup was rained out though the Polars looked tournament-ready in their first-round sectional game Monday, a 10-0, five-inning victory over Champlin Park. But the Polars, who are 20-1 and ranked No. 1 in the Star Tribune's final metro area poll, know they have a long way to go if they are going to qualify for their first state tournament since 1989.

Beyond the games, Part 1: Prep sports success has a price
Dennis Brackin and Michael Rand, Star Tribune November 23, 2003 It is known simply as the "arms race," a 21st century catch-phrase that refers to the cash that schools shell out in hopes of fielding successful athletic programs. Recent examples are as numerous as the dollars being spent: • One school lured away a highly successful football coach, dramatically upgraded its facilities and in one year expects to raise a quarter of a million dollars through its booster club. • Another school, already an athletic powerhouse, added a multi-million dollar activity center and domed practice facility. • And the highly successful basketball coach at another school is both envied and criticized by his peers for a deal with a shoe/apparel company. The schools in question are not Oklahoma, Ohio State and Kansas.
