Welcome to OUTLAST Adventure Racing.
Ottawa's Premier Adventure Racing Series. OUTLAST Our Mission
To provide quality, well-organized adventure races so competitors can experience the true style of wilderness expedition style adventure racing, and feel safe doing so. We also structure our organization to introduce new comers into the world of adventure racing first by providing information sessions, clinics, navigation training and hosting a 6hr introductory Sprint race. Contact us directly to find out more about our information sessions and adventure racing clinics. The Race Our race courses are designed with the essence of "expedition style" adventure racing. Racers compete through an un-marked course and will have to use their navigational skills through every discipline. The OUTLAST series also gives racers the option to test their skills on courses ranging anywhere from a 6hr sprint to a 48hr expedition in length...anybody's race. In every OUTLAST race, competitors can expect to experience what longer races have to offer, such as off-trail trekking (bushwhacking) single track Mt. biking, epic paddle sections and challenging navigation while traveling through remote wilderness on an un-marked race course. Competitors can expect to be physically and mentally challenged regardless of length and style of the race. We do attract more advanced adventure racers through our 24hr and 48hr events, who are impressed by the challenge we provide and the way we run a well organized event.

ORIENTEERING - THE FAMILY SPORT FOR LIFE What is Orienteering?
Orienteering is finding one's way through the country side, typically bushland, using a detailed map and compass. An orienteering course involves visiting a number of locations in the bush (such as creek junctions, gullies, boulders, etc.) in the correct order.
These locations, called controls, are marked by orange and white flags. To complete an orienteering course may take as little as 20 minutes for a short easy course, or up to 3 hours for a longer difficult course. Orienteering can be enjoyed by both young and old, either as a relaxing recreation or as a competitive sport. Welcome to Learn Orienteering!
This is a brand new site, but built on some old and very popular content, namely my Illustrated Guide on How to Use a Compass ! If you're looking for the content, and aren't interested in a discussion of my future plans, you might as well go there right away This site is now hosted by IrthNet , and I'm very thankful for their assistance.
Expanding the scope
People who have read my compass pages before have been many, they are visited by several hundreds every day. There has however, been few updates there in the past couple of years. This is mostly been due to me writing a big thesis in astrophysics. This thesis writing is nearing its end and therefore, I would like to devote more of my time to making orienteering instructional materials available on the web. That is, expand the scope beyond just the compass.
Free Documentation License
. Pretty much, it means that you can use it for whatever you like, but any changes you do must be contributed back to the project. There are some issues that needs to be addressed however, but I shall return to them in due time. It is also worth having a look at Creative Commons , as I may well compose a lisence by using the mechanisms they are developing.

Making Mini-Voice Transmitters for Radio Orienteering What is Radio-Orienteering? Radio-Orienteering (R-O) is the activity of finding your way in an unfamiliar area by taking directional bearings on beacon transmitters, and using those bearings to find routes through the terrain to specific locations.Organized competitive Radio-Orienteering is also known as ARDF (Amateur Radio Direction Finding) and Foxhunting (On-Foot). It is a fast-growing internationally popularized sport that combines hidden radio transmitter hunting and conventional orienteering. At organized meets or "hunts", R-O enthusiasts gather to seek out the special battery-operated transmitters hidden within a certain boundary area. They use lightweight miniature radio receivers and hand held directional antennas with map and compass. Many kinds of R-O situations, games, and events are possible. ROG is experimenting with new and interesting methods. Back to site index Radio Orienteering Equipment Radio-Orienteers are fond of using their own custom equipment, and many of them develop unique systems. This includes a radio receiver and direction-finding antenna. Using this equipment, the R-Oer can zero-in on beacon transmitters. A license is not needed for R-O equipment.
