In 1978, Ron Allred and Jim Wells purchased the ski area from Zoline. They added snowmaking, built Lifts 8, 9 and 10 and cut more runs down the steep north face of the ski area, including the famous Spiral Stairs, Plunge and Kant-Mak-M. In the years to follow, their company welcomed snowboarders, built Gorrono Restaurant, developed the Mountain Village, constructed the free gondola transportation system, created a snow-boarding park and opened Allred's on-mountain restaurant.
The finale of this 30-year saga was the recent purchase of the mountain by Hideo "Joe" Morita, who took the resort to its present glory by adding four lifts and expanding the area by 733 acres into Prospect Bowl.
This prime location, perched in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, afforded one thing no ski area entrepreneur ever had to buy or develop - unrivaled scenery. Telluride has always taken top honors in ski magazine surveys for its 360-degree views and towering mountainscapes.

Nordic Ski Patrol
Our ubiquitous Alpine (downhill) Ski Patrol brethren sometimes call it "Nerdic" Ski Patrol. But I fail to see how sitting on a lift, then letting gravity do all the work, qualifies our critics as "macho". They ride up, we ski up. They ski down, we ski down. We both promote ski safety.

Loup Loup Nordic Ski Trails
Home
Ski Information Photos Maps Welcome to the Loup Loup Nordic Ski Areas virtual visitor center. You are invited to come experience what the local folks have known for sometime, that the best cross country skiing in Okanogan County is located at the Loup Loup Summit. You will find two ski areas hidden among the foot hills of the North Cascades. A true treasure with opportunities for beginner to the most experienced skier.
When cloud inversion cover the Valleys floors of the Methow and Okanogan Valleys, you can usually find the sun shinning on the Nordic ski trails at the Loup. Even the afternoon sunsets provide a magnificent sight to a long day of skiing. The sun casting its final rays on the jagged edges of the sawtooth ridges of the rugged Cascade Mountain Range offer a picture perfect back drop.
To get to the ski areas, travel Highway 20 heading west out of the Okanogan Valley for 18 miles or east out of the Methow Valley for 12 miles. You will reach the summit of the Loup Loup Pass. To get to the North Summit Nordic ski trails follow the Loup Loup Ski Area signs. For the South Summit Nordic ski area turn off at the summit and travel on forest road #41, ¼ mile south until you reach the Sno-park area.
The North Summit Nordic ski trails take off from the Loup Loup Alpine ski facility where parking is free and a daily pass is $5.00 donation. If for some reason the Loup Loup Alpine ski facility is closed, please send a donation to Nordic Trail System, c/o Loup Loup, P. O. Box 1686 , Omak, WA 98841. The donations assists in covering the cost of grooming the trails and maintenance of the trails. You will have the option to ski 20 km of groomed ski trails.

What Is Nordic Ski Patrol?
Jeff Schmidt, Nordic Advisor, Central Division, National Ski Patrol Adapted for this site by Jim Meloche Founded in 1938 by "Minnie" Dole, the National Ski Patrol System (NSPS) has developed at the same rapid pace as the ski industry in America. Today, Nordic patrols are an integral part of the 25,000 member NSPS serving the skiing public. Our objective is to provide ski areas and organized tours with trained volunteers capable of performing services to help make these facilities and tours safer and more enjoyable for skiers. NSPS patrollers provide their services with skill, diplomacy and unselfish dedication. Can You Qualify?
  • Do you enjoy being challenged by a variety of ski conditions and situations? Would you like the opportunity to share that challenge with others? Do you want to sharpen your skiing and first aid skills? Would you like to use those skills to make cross country skiing safer and more enjoyable? Do you enjoy working with the public and helping people? Can you remain calm and function well in an emergency situation? Do you have the time to commit yourself to a schedule of patrolling duties during the ski season?
