Many trail systems are essentially free, but do accept skier donations or request parking fees. Please support these trail systems by donating generously. Fee based trail systems pride themselves on offering a quality skiing experience and your fees will insure that trails are regularly and conscientiously maintained. Good grooming is very necessary and expensive. Your fees and contributions will not only insure that the trails are groomed regularly, but that these trails will continue to exist. Cross country skiers are important to Northwest Wisconsin, but a nearly invisible part of the regional economy when compared to other winter sport enthusiasts. We can all be ambassadors for the sport and help elevate the image and visibility of cross country skiing. Welcome to our site. The Yale Nordic Ski Team races in Division III against Cornell, Clarkson, West Point, Alfred, MIT and Syracuse (see links ). Our members range in athletic ability from varsity athletes to occasional joggers. Training is as serious or informal as you like. There are voluntary practices several times a week, and we meet for dinner once a week in a residential college. Links Nordic Skiing in Scotland Nordic skiing is the original form of skiing, and first evolved in Scandinavia The nordic discipline originated in Scandinavia as a form of transport during the long winter months. It uses equipment that is relatively light, often using wood, foam injection and plastic for the skis and leather or plastic boots. The toe of the boot is fixed to the ski using a binding, and the heel is free to lift. The free heel allows ease of travel over varied terrain. This is aided by using skins or wax on the ski bases either to grip or glide (depending on the discipline). You can go nordic skiing virtually anywhere there is snow-space, in the local park, along forest trails, up mountains or through glens. Certain restrictions may apply to access but your local club will be able to point you in the right direction. Anyone can participate, young or old - the input requirement is not necessarily high unless you want to get involved in the athletic, competitive or touring levels of the sport. I knew the name Tuff Shed, but had never dealt with them. It's remarkable at how fast and efficient they are at putting something like this together. Ventilation for those nasty fumes and everything. December 8 and 9 brought new snow to Colorado and made for good skiing at North Boulder Park. This is on the 9th after BNC volunteers had groomed that morning and the night before. A snowstorm the weekend before made skiing an option on Thanksgiving Day. This is another shot of 17th at Eldora. BNC volunteers are behind the snowfencing examining their handiwork. The Boulder Nordic Club's annual Expo and Ski Swap held on November 12 was again a success. Here the swap area is swamped as it opens for business.
