Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club (TNSC) offers a great cross-country skiing experience for skiers of all ages and abilities.
Nordic News, April 7, 2004
The 2003-04 cross-country ski season is entering its eighteenth week at the Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club. This past Friday evening saw a dozen skiers enjoying our great trails under a bright, moonlit sky. The skiing was surprisingly good: the warm weather during the daytime softened the trails just enough while the cool evening meant that the trails weren’t too slushy. The potluck dinner that followed was also excellent. All in all it was easily the best moonlight ski of the season.
Trails
As of Sunday, April 4, some of our trails are still in good condition, and the recent switch to Daylight Saving Time makes it is easier to get out for a ski after work. The 6 kilometre Blue trail was groomed over the weekend and is mostly in excellent shape. There is one large puddle/icy patch at the bottom of the first large downhill on the Special Blue loop. The weather forecast is calling for relatively cool temperatures until at least April 9, so the skiing on these trails should still be good on the weekend. There are bare patches on both the Red trail and the Super Blue loop, while the Green trail has not been groomed since March 27.

Kane Valley Cross Country Ski Trails ...
When winter blows into the British Columbia Interior, the Kane Valley, south of Merritt, becomes a haven for Nordic skiers. With a base elevation of 1160 metres (3800 feet), the timbered valley has a micro-climate that can provide ideal Nordic skiing conditions. The snow is generally dry, seldom more than 1 to 1.5 metres deep, and the air temperature is usually between and -15 degrees Celsius throughout the winter. The trails are located on crown land. However, there is privately-owned land adjacent to and within the trail system. Portions of the Valley have been farmed since the 1890s and selectively logged during the past 30 years. The ski trails follow old logging roads and skid trails through open timber and across natural grassy slopes. Roller packing the Harmon Trail.
