Mountain biking in the Pittsburgh Area
This section is under development. Please send comments and pointers to other riding areas to me at the address below.
Frick Park
Found within the triangle formed by the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, and Regent Square, Frick Park has what are probably the best mountain bike trails available inside the city limits. There are entrances to park trails from Beachwood Boulevard, Forbes Avenue, Bradock Avenue, Reynolds Street and Commercial (Forward) Avenue. Much of the riding in Frick park is multitrack. As it is a city park, bikers will often find themselves sharing the trails with pedestrians and their dogs. Luckily, Frick Park does have some intermediate level technical single track, as well as some multitrack trails which see very little pedestrian use. If you go into Frick from the entrance by the playground on Beachwood Boulevard in Squirrel Hill, and follow the trail back into the park until the pavement ends, you will find a gravel trail that leads right around a sandpile into a small open area. On the far side of that open area is the entrance to the Roller Coaster one of the most difficult technical single track trails in Frick. Early on the trail will split a number of times, as a rule take the most level path - not turning up or downhill if there is a level path. If you don't end up on a park road near Commercial Street, you haven't done the whole roller coaster. If you didn't do any climbing you might have a missed right turn imediately after the hills that give Roller Coaster it's name.

This was part of the plan when we added the new section of Loop 4 extending down to the main trail head. The park plans to make Loop 2 more of a real beginner trail with a minimum of roots and other difficulties.

I have been reading the rec.bicycles iglesias@draco.acs.uci.edu ) for helping me with the new text format of this FAQ. He is the maintainer of the rec.bicycles.* FAQ and he has agreed to lend me his wonderful format for me to use. Thanks Mike, I owe you one! And to Brian Adams ( adams@cs.unr.edu ), who edited my FAQ so that it is actually somewhat understandable. I would also like to thanks all you folks out there in cyberspace who have commented on the FAQ. I would especially like to thank the people on the mtb-mailing list ( mtb@cycling.org , for subcribing info, please see http://www.cycling.org and look under mailing lists. read on for more info) The people on the list are very helpful to my "quest" for a better FAQ. Note to foreign readers, I believe the FAQ has been translated into French, Finnish, and German. If you would like to translate the FAQ into other languages, feel free, but please tell me so that I can keep track. Please do not ask me where these FAQ's are located, because I really have no idea. 140. Mountain Bike Pictures And Videos, Helsinki Finland
Pictures and video clips of many mtb xc bikes, mountain biking trails and dirt jumping.

Mountain Biking in Helsinki area, Finland
MTB - Mountain bike Picture and Video Gallery
I have a mtb picture gallery that contain mountain biking pictures of cross country mtb biking and some video clips of dirt jumping around Helsinki. Pictures are taken mainly in Finland, during summer and winter. You can also take a look at the bikes we have around here - well, practically the same as anywhere around the world I would think. Pictures are taken by me and videos by my friend Eki.
MTB - Mountain bike Discussion Forum
These pages contain also a mtb discussion forum for mountain bikes, mainly to discuss and agree when to go biking together in the capital area of Finland. Some time ago it was laborious to call and email many people to find out if they were going riding. Now we have the discussion board to easily inform when and were people are going riding. Discussions (Lenkkikeskustelut) can be followed in Finnish.
We Are group of mountain bikers around Helsinki Finland
We are a loose group of mountain bikers around Helsinki area. Some of us belong to mtb clubs, but several ride just for own amusement. I originally made these pages to distribute pictures I took from one mountain biking event. Then the pages evolved to include a discussion forum to make communication easier on when and where people are riding.
Mountain Biking in Finland
Mountain biking in Finland is really easy as we have a so called "every mans right" which means that you can walk, and also ride a bicycle, almost everywhere. This "every mans right" applies to state owned but privately owned land as well, as long as you don't enter anybody's home yard and obey limitations on e.g. nature conservation areas. And as Finland is geographically about the same size as Germany, or state of California, but with only 5 million people and a lot of pine woods, there are a lot of places to go mountain biking.
