105. Mountain Bike Trails In Minneapolis-St. Paul
In my case, my conversion to mountain biking took place innocently enough I bought the book Minnesota Bike Atlas (which I recommend) at a local store.
http://www.visi.com/~tam/mtb.html
Mountain Bike Trails in Minneapolis-St. Paul
(Named as one of Bike Magazine's 15 best cities in North America for mountain biking!) 1996-2002, Todd Murray - elkman@spamcop.net Here I am riding over a pile of logs on the Minnesota River Bottoms trail. Trail Update (4/4/03): Here is a good explanation of why riding muddy trails in the spring is a bad idea. (Scroll down to the bottom to Kurt Lange's message.) It may have been warm earlier this week, but it's still a good idea to wait just another week or two until the trails are nice and dried out. Do the trails (and your drivetrain) a favor and stay off muddy trails. Also, check out the MORC forums for more information on local trail conditions. Trail Update (3/23/03): It's spring time again, and it's time for my annual announcement: During spring conditions, trails can be rather wet and muddy, particularly when snow is melting off. Riding in muddy early spring conditions can cause trail damage, which tends to upset land managers. I rode my road bike down to the Minnesota River Bottoms trailhead on Lyndale and found that the trail is rather muddy in that area. If you're riding, check out the trail first and consider whether it's worth it. (That said, this has been an exceptionally quick spring warmup.) News (1/17/02): I've posted property ownership maps of the Minnesota River Bottoms trail in Bloomington, mainly for some people who asked me for those maps at a meeting.

Sully Creek to Buffalo Gap section of MDH Posted by Maddog on Tuesday April 20, @08:53PM
from the Ride Report dept. Rode Sully Creek to Buffalo Gap today (4-20-04). Campsites in Medora are easy to come by, but primitive being the key word. The Medora Campgrounds facilities were locked up, no one to even take my money. This is an ideal time to ride as the daytime temps are in the 50s and 60s. Trail is in great shape. The only erosion I saw was horse-created by riding during or shortly after it rained. The Buffalo Gap Ranch is open for lunch with very reasonable prices. The owner (also happens to be the mayor of Medora) says they have a shuttle service, but very few MTBers take advantage of it. I was surprised to find a full service motel and restaurant fifty feet from the trail. My new bike performed flawlessly, and I took some amazing pictures of the badlands. Definitely one of the more scenic sections of the trail. Read More...

I relegate myself to mountain biking these days as there are few paved roads leading out of Laramie. I've ridden at a few of the trendy mountain bike spots ( Durango being one, and the San Francisco Bay Area being another) and Laramie is better: few people, lots of antelope and challenging rides.

Detailed description of mountain biking trails and nearby camping, hiking and other activities in Colorado.
http://www.wildernet.com/colorado/mtnbiking.html
Colorado Mountain Biking Guide Mountain Biking in Colorado Colorado is world renowned for its natural beauty and outdoor recreation. Biking in a State Park , National Park or National Monument is an excellent way to experience colorado. There are hundreds of paved and unpaved roads suitable for tour bikes. Jeep roads, trails and single tracks accommodate mountain bikes. Colorado bicycling provides access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the state. Description - Challenge yourself by going up a jeep road. Feel the adrenaline rush as you speed down a single track dodging rocks and logs along the way. Be prepared for cool evenings and hot days. Sunscreen is a must to protect you from the intense sun, particularly at high elevations. Also be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms and accompanying lightning which are a regular occurrence in the mountains in July and August. Carry lots of water as the climate is very dry. Be sure that someone knows where you are. Be extremely courteous to hikers, horseback riders and other bikers. Yield to all foot and hoof traffic. Attractions - Most of the state's mountain bike routes are located in its vast public lands managed by the US Forest Service. The
