LANCASTER UNIVERSITY KORFBALL CLUB SO WHAT IS KORFBALL? Korfball is the fastest growing sport in Europe and originates from Holland where it is the national sport. The word 'Korfball' means basketball in Dutch, however the game is more commonly described as a cross between basketball and netball, with its own rules thrown in. It is the only mixed team sport so yes that means both lads and girls play along side each other on court!! How To Play: On each team there are 4 lads and 4 girls. The court is divided into 2 halves with 2 of each sex at each end. One half of the team will attack whilst the other half defends, until 2 goals have been scored by either team. Then everyone swaps ends and positions (ie. attackers become defenders and vice versa). Goals are scored by shooting the ball into a korf, but you must be free from your defender in order to shoot. A korf looks just like a netball post except its higher, and the game is played on a full sized court, like in basketball. In proper matches the game lasts an hour in total, but in general a game lasts 15 minutes. The team with the most goals at the end of this period wins. Korfball
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Korfball (in Dutch korfbal , which literally means basketball ) is a team ball game. It is mostly played in the Netherlands , where it was invented, but seems to be catching on in the rest of the world too. Korfball differs from (most?) other team sports in that it is a mixed sex game: a team consists of four men and four women. Table of contents showTocToggle("show","hide") 1 How to play

How to play
Korfball is played indoors as well as outdoors on a pitch (called 'court'), divided into two halves called zones. In the middle of each zone there is a post (3.5m, shorter for the young) with a basket in the top. The ball is similar to the one used for football . There are two teams, each consisting of eight players: two men and two women of each team in each zone (attack and defence). Scoring is done by throwing the ball through the other team's basket. After two goals the teams change zones: the defenders become attackers and attackers defenders. At half-time the teams change sides.

Click the image to ENTER Welcome to the Home of South Australian Korfball on the web. If you're here to find out about Korfball, this is the place to be. Korfball as our motto says is "the sport for all". The competition in South Australia caters for a wide range of people regardless of age, ability or gender (after all, it continues after 100 years to be the only court sport in the world originally designed to be played mixed). It doesn't matter if you're of a competitive or social nature, All SA Korfball clubs offer active participation in a team sport and a fantastic social atmosphere. And all clubs are constantly looking for new players. Competition officially starts for ages 13 and over, there are some periodical tournaments for Primary School aged children, and some clubs offer regional junior competitions.
