The game has nothing to do with actual jump rope, but children love it anyway. Rules of the game: To start the game, two players put the Chinese jump rope around their ankles and stand a couple of feet apart. The third player goes first. The object of the game is to complete a series of jumps and tricks without making a mistake. Each time a child finishes a series of moves, the rope moves up. The rope starts around the children's ankles, then moves up to their knees, then up to their waists. A player can't stop between moves. If she lands on the rope when she's not supposed to, or doesn't complete a jump, she's out and it's the next child's turn. The best thing about Chinese Jump Rope is that there are no winners or losers in this game; if a child successfully finishes her moves at the waist level, she must stop and let another kid take a turn. Here are the series of moves each jumper must complete: Move 1: 2-4-6-8 The player must jump from side to side four times with her feet straddling one side of the rope.

The are hundreds of ways to play, so encourage your children to come up with their own variations. Rules of the game: In Jump Rope , players do just that, jump over a rope. If your child is playing by herself, she takes one end of the rope in each of her hands and swings it over and under her body. When it passes beneath her feet, she jumps up to allow it to pass under. With at least three children, the game goes a little differently. Two children hold the ends of the rope and turn it while the third child jumps over the middle. The rope turners should be far enough apart that the rope goes over the jumper's head but just barely touches the ground as it goes under her feet. If more than three people are playing, the jumper loses her turn if she catches the rope in her feet or has cleared the rope a set number of times. If the rope is still turning when her turn is up, she jumps out and the next player jumps in. Experienced jumpers can make the game more challenging by hopping on one foot, bouncing a ball, picking up and putting down a stone in between jumps, or jumping high enough for the rope to pass twice before they land.
