The jousting tournament to decide who is the most fearless knight can begin. Well armoured, the fighters enter the arena.
http://www.clanfork.co.uk/Trev/A/Avalon.htm
A tournament game
Publisher's Description:
Fanfares sound. The ground vibrates under horses hooves. The jousting tournament to decide who is the most fearless knight can begin. Well armoured, the fighters enter the arena. Who will be the last to still have a complete set of weaponry, and therefore able to decide the tournament for himself? And who will be in possession of the most gold at the end of the fighting, and be the real victor of the jousting?
Box info:
Designer : Marco Silles Published : 1978 Publisher : Fun Connection Players : 3 to 6 Ages : 8+ Playing time : 45 min
Trev says:
Players collect and trade weapons and armour for use in jousts during the tournament, the aim being to make the most money during the fighting, whether or not you win the fights. The pieces are attractive enough. The weakest part of this game is that it has been designed such that ties are common during jousts. The ties are resolved by what the designer obviously thought was a good idea (a large part of the rules is given over it), but essentially boils down to a form of Snap! The rest of the game could be promising, but I'll need to try it a few more times to see how play develops.

Order of the Boar
2nd New Zealand International Jousting Tournament
Saturday, February 24th, 2001
Introduction
The tournament is being held as part of the annual Upper Hutt Summer Carnival. It follows the same format as the 1999 tournament with separate skill-at-arms and jousting competitions. The Summer Carnival is an annual non-profit community fund raising event which attracts up to 20,000 spectators. The tournament will also decide the Australasian Champion for both events. Currently both are held by Rodney Walker (Australia). The Upper Hutt City Council is partially sponsoring the tournament and is activity assisting us with finding another sponsor. The Order of the Boar is organising and hosting the tournament. We are holding both a non-contact skill-at-arms competition and a lance and shield full-contact jousting tournament. Competitors can enter one or both, but we prefer that jousters enter both. Overseas Visitors If you are coming from Australia you need to be recommended by the Ordre of the Blak Prynz and you can fly directly to Wellington International Airport. If you are coming from elsewhere then you need to fly into Auckland International Airport and then connect with a domestic flight through to Wellington. Overseas visitors will be met at Wellington International Airport by Order of the Boar members. We can billet visitors, or if you prefer other accommodation we can arrange hostel accommodation 2 kms from our training site or motel units 2.5kms from our training site. We are currently negotiating either free or at least discounted accommodation costs at either the above units or a hotel in Upper Hutt. We will also provide lunch and dinner at the practice sessions leading up to the tournament, during it, as well as the day after.

A Knight cannot shine in war if he has not prepared for it in tournaments...
Full contact jousting
I n our beginning...
Bearing in mind that the sport with all of its experts and their experience had passed on some 400 years earlier, we began with only a few horses paired with a strong desire to engage in an ancient and time-honored tradition. It was time that the spectacle of full contact jousting was reborn.
Reviving jousting from scratch left a great deal to experimentation. This process was an evolutionary one, as none of the original participants were still around to ask for advice or assistance. All that remained were some texts left by those who scribed for the sport. Practical experience really needed to be gained, and there is only one way to get that...
Since our inception, and in the more than two decades of our existence, The New Riders of the Golden Age has been established as the premier jousting troupe in the country. Each year we perform from coast to coast for millions of people at Renaissance faires, state and county fairs, and special events. As performers in a show, we follow a script. The nature of the situation and its variables requires that we be open to improvisation. This allows us to keep the show fresh and alive for the audience as well as ourselves. The script sets the pace and gives a foundation to the excitement already existing from our energy.

PEEP JOUSTING - Part One: Tournament Setup
I've had these Peeps for about three years. Every year I plan to do something with them, but never do. Until now. Who cares if they're stale and more sugary cement than marshmallow? I'm not eating them, I'm melting them! For proper Peep Jousting you need a proper arena. Instead, I have my trusty microwave. It's only slightly soiled, and it even has a rotating plate in the middle for better "cooking." It was a wedding present, making it about six and a half years old now. Since this was to be a tournament, and not just torture, I figured each Peep should have its own identity. Being too lazy to give them names, I simply numbered them with a Sharpie. To make things a little more interesting I used both purple and pink Peeps. The Peeps would compete among their own color to be The One True Pink Peep and The One True Purple Peep. These two victors would compete for the title of Ultimate Peep. I wound up with eight pink Peeps and eight purple Peeps. Each side would have four quarter-final matches, two semi-finals and one final. I wondered how well Peeps would stand up to multiple trips to the microwave, fearing victory would be declared not by who struck who first, but by who didn't melt quite so much.

History of Jousting
One of the better known sports of the Renaissance period was the Tournament of the Horse which often included jousting. Most of the Faires have incorporated these action packed events into their entertainment. You may see dashing Knights clash at full gallop vying for royal favor. Spectators are urged by the Knight’s squires and medieval criers to support their champion. Although the origins are unsure, formalized jousting rose to the height of it’s popularity in Europe during the 1400’s. An off shoot of the war games ("Melees") staged by Knights on horseback and foot soldiers in open fields, jousting was conducted in colorfully decorated area designated by the nobles for spectator viewing. Initially these "jousts" served as a way for Knights to hone their fighting skills during times of peace, but quickly became a money making venture as the winning team could hold the losers for ranson accepting their horses and armor as payment. The numerous deaths spawned by these events led Popes and English Kings to ban jousting. Such bans did little to curtail the events which became a crowd pleasing attraction at market faires and

Google Gmail Jousting
Crews Op-Ed in The Washington Times
by Clyde Wayne Crews
May 11, 2004
The Google Internet search engine embodies the classic tale of the garage-based startup taking on industry Goliaths (like Yahoo) and winning. Upcoming is a likely $25 billion initial public offering.
But Google isn't without detractors. Some fear Google's supposed market dominance. Still others object to the particular mechanics of Google's search technology, which ranks a given Web page based on the number of other pages linking to it. Some even think Google tinkers inappropriately with search results. But Google was vindicated after being sued by rival Search King, which alleged manipulation of search results to lower its ranking. According to the judge, "page ranks are opinion," and protected by the First Amendment.
The latest debate has arisen over the potential privacy hazards of Google's new e-mail service, "Gmail." Other search engines, like Yahoo, have long offered free e-mail. Latecomer Google plans to offer a full gigabyte of e-mail storage, many times that available today from the popular Yahoo and Hotmail free services; their few megabytes are consumed by a song file or a few attached documents.
But nothing is free: The Gmail tradeoff is that e-mails a user receives will be scanned by machine and advertisements, based on trigger words, will appear within one's browser.
