The Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia does not in any way guarantee the completeness or accuracy of the information provided. Also, conditions can change very rapidly. The Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia provides this information about ice climbing conditions at Lillooet as a service to climbers. The information is provided by a climber living in Lillooet who has generously offered to supply us with an update each Thursday through the ice climbing season. If you have any new and current information on BC Ice yourself, feel free to submit it for posting on these pages. Ice Climbing Information
Almost the only source for ice climbing in this region is The Climber's Guide To Tahoe Rock by Mike Carville (if you can find a copy.) Below is a list of the areas that were listed in this book. The best source for current ice conditions is your local climbing store. Note that ice conditions are very transitory, what is good ice one day could be running water the next day. "It has been said that a California ice cliimber's most important piece of gear is a fast car."

Exum Guides to present at Peak Performance Weekend

Exum Mountain Guide Brian Prax will present training-specific strategies for mountaineering at the annual Peak Performance Weekend, June 5-6 in Jackson Hole, WY. Provided by Grand Dynamics, Inc., the Weekend is filled with presenters providing strategies on overall fitness, nutrition, mental focus, and goal setting. The Weekend is a component of "The Grand Adventure," a cutting-edge training program that culminates with an ascent of the Grand Teton. Also at the Peak Performance Weekend (Sat. evening), Exum guide Stephen Koch will present an inspirational slide show on his Seven Summits Quest, including his recent expedition on Mount Everest and climbing the Grand Teton. Three-day ski camp great success During May 3-5, Exum guide Kevin Pusey led three clients, ages 22-50, for three days of ski mountaineering training and adventure. The first part of day one was spent reviewing basic snow skills at the top of the Jackson Hole Ski Area accessed via the aerial tram. Day one finished in Corbet's Couloir with dynamic rope skills such as rappelling and belaying. Day two began with descent of Corbet's, and then culminated with a lot of skiing and skinning practice in Tower 3 Chute. With an early start on day three, the team attempted a ski descent of Buck Mountain, clicking into their skis just shy of the summit due to warm conditions.

Dave's Place - Ice Climbing
Welcome to my ice climbing section. I merely climb waterfall ice to pass the transition time from alpine climbing and scrambling to ski mountaineering.

About Me About Me Calgary Calgary ...
think.

Dave's Ice Climbs Welcome to my Ice Climbing section. Of the various types of mountaineering, I must say that ice climbing isn't really one of my favourites, but I do like it better than rock. Doing too much ice can lead to you getting out of shape (cardio-wise). The approaches are usually quite short (under and hour) and once you are on the route, you're never working up a sweat.
As with all forms of mountaineering (scrambling, skiing, alpine climbing, etc.) there is a definative book for finding route information. It's titled, "Waterfall Ice, Climbs in the Canadian Rockies" and it's by Joe Josephson. Much like Dougherty's book, I have no intention of climbing every route in the book. A lot of routes in this book are class WI-5 or higher. I must say that I don't have the desire to climb ice at that level. I merely climb waterfall ice to pass the "transition time" from alpine climbing and scrambling to ski mountaineering. There is usually a 2 month period where there is not enough snow in the mountains to do ski mountaineering and too much snow to do scrambles or alpine climbs. That's when I ice climb.
Now, breaking up this section was tough. I don't want to list every climb in the book as I did for the scrambles section, so I've chosen to break it up in my own way:
