Experience all things with the enthusiasm of a child, as if you were seeing it for the first time through unbiased eyes. Children at play ... the wide-eyed wonderment of newly discovered things, the uninhibited movements, the astronomical amounts of energy, the giggles that cannot be controlled ... As adults it is easy to lose track of how amazing this world is. If only everyone throughout their lives could view the natural world the way children do, with the same enthusiasm, curiosity and bewilderment. At Through a Child's Eyes Productions, we strongly believe life is a gift which provides fresh ideas and excitement every single day. We strive to view our world and the people who inhabit it as a child does; to really look, to find fun in the mundane and to learn from everyone and every single experience. We recognize film and photography as a powerful tool that can be utilized to leave a lasting, positive, thought provoking impression upon a large audience. Our goal is to inspire, educate and challenge via the medium of motion pictures and still photography no matter what the subject and to always try to view the world through a child's eyes. We specialize in adventure, cultural and environmental filmmaking and still photography from conception through presentation. showme='n'; st='js'

Listed below are the available beginner and advanced ice climbing courses for the 2004 / 2005 Winter ice climbing season. All ice climbing equipment is included in our courses. 2-Day Basic Ice Climbing Course
For those new to the sport of ice climbing, we offer a 2-day Basic Ice Climbing Course . This course is centered at the world-renowned Ouray Ice Park; a scenic, rock walled gorge with hundreds of frozen waterfall climbs cascading from the rim above. Due to its ease of access from the hotel and its vast amount of terrain for all ability levels, the Ouray Ice Park is the premier destination for ice climbing instruction. This course begins on low angle terrain where we introduce proper footwork and use of crampons; emphasizing balance and technique over strength. From there we venture onto progressively steeper terrain to learn and practice techniques for steep ice climbing, including two-tool and zig-zag methods. Throughout the course discussion will also address belay methods, protective systems, and safety precautions for ice climbing.

Ice Climbing While we were staying in Selva for a winter holiday, I saw from their German/Italian* brochure that the Mountain Guides' Office offers a course in ice climbing, which sounded like fun. Our American chalet hosts Chris and Maria were keen climbers, but didn't speak German or Italian, so I arranged for the three of us to meet the head Guide, Reinhard Senoner, on Wednesday afternoon. After equipping us with the specialised gear (I had the plastic boots and crampons, but we needed to borrow harnesses, helmets and tools) Reinhard drove us to the nearby village of St Cristina, from where it was only a few minutes' walk through the woods to this awesome frozen waterfall. Sorry about the colours on some of the photos, there wasn't a lot of light about, and the (digital) camera got a bit confused by all that blue, blue ice. Although Val Gardena is now part of Italy, it used to belong to Austria, and is still known as the South Tyrol. The native language of the valley is Ladin, an ancient tongue still spoken by 90% of the population. However, they also speak German and Italian, and place names can be spelt in three different ways. It's quite confusing for the visitor.

Nordic Ice:A Subjective Guide
By Struan Gray Boswell: Is not the Giants-Causeway worth seeing?
Johnson: Worth seeing? yes; but not worth going to see.
Boswell's Life of Johnson, Oct 1779. semi-useless list of the major Scandinavian ice climbing areas, complete with map, which is worth consulting to answer that perennial question: "I'm going to XXXX, is there any ice climbing nearby?" What I hope will be more useful are the subjective guides listed below, where I ramble on about anything beyond the bleeding obvious that particularly caught my fancy, got my goat, or just seemed worth mentioning about the areas that I have visited personally. As a simple indication as to whether a place is worth visiting, each area with a subjective guide is given a Johnson Factor between one and five, indicating its suitability as an ice climbing venue for portly eighteenth century lexicographers. Just count the icons, loosen your clothing and trust the Good Doctor. Iceland has a good site already). As ever, the pages are under continual construction, so if something is listed but not linked it means that I am updating or still writing those pages: feel free to pester me by email if you need specific information immediately.
