The Australian Hwa Rang Do Academy. Hwa Rang Do works at: I was graded 4th Dan Black Belt in Hwa Rang Do in October 1995, by Master Instructor Kim Myung-man. The Australian Hwa Rang Do Academy now has its own web site here Some Notes by Tom Osborn on the Technical Side of Hwa Rang Do The power and control used in Hwa Rang Do depends on specific ways of using the body. Structurally the skeleton can support large loads and transmit great force if properly aligned and conditioned. Extending this strength capability for use in split second evasion, opponent control, smashing kicks and strikes, and maintaining long term health is the major goal of training. Likewise, the mind has a strong role in effective martial arts - not just for perception and awareness, but as the source of intention and the partner of spirit (resolve). In a sense, consciousness discards the petty and distracting elements of "the moment" and unites with the "essence of now". "Heart" maintains the purity and compassion of that unity. The main indicators of progress are smoothness, easy strength, relaxation/confidence, quickness, use of the whole body, and ability to release power suddenly.

Hwa Rang Do The techniques are derived in accord with the principles of Um-Yang. Yu - soft, fluid force of flowing water. The power of Yu is deceptive; relenting under force; it draws its attack into its own stream of power and re-directs it. Won - is movement in circular directions. Its power may be seen in the rock at the end of a sling, or the power developed from a spinning motion. Hwa - as the third element of Um, it represents unity and combination. Kang - is hard like steel or stone. Its power is illustrated in the form of a closed fist in a thrust punch or a straight front kick. Kak - means angles. Its form is found in the correct angle of the joint when applying breaking and throwing techniques or straight angular blocks. Kan - means maintaining proper distance. It is the opposite aspect of Hwa or combination and its form is found in understanding the distance between two opponents. NAE GONG Kyung Ki - making the body light Jung Ki - making the body heavy Chyel Ki -making the body hard as steel Ma Ki - making the body numb Shin Ki -increasing mental concentration and awareness WAE GONG MOO GI GONG - involves the offensive and defensive use of the over 108 traditional weapons found within 20 categories of weaponry. Hwa Rang Do "The way of flowering manhood" Hwa Rang Do is a fairly complete art encompassing throws, joint locks, strikes, and kicks. Its description would closely parallel Hapkido 's. Hwa Rang Do is an ancient Korean martial art that dates back nearly 2000 years. King Chinhung of Silla established an academy for young nobles to become educated in things such as martial arts, archery, poetry and dance. These young nobles were the first Hwa Rang warriors. Won Kwang Bhopsa established a code of ethics by which the Hwa Rang warriors lived. It stressed among other things loyalty to country and family, courage and justice. For years the art of Hwa Rang Do had to remain hidden in the Buddhist temples. In 1960 Joo Bang Lee recieved permission from his instructor, the Buddhist monk Suahm Dhosa who was the Supreme Grandmaster of the art at the time, to teach Hwa Rang Do to the general public. The first public Hwa Rang Do school was opened in Seoul, South Korea. From there Hwa Rang Do has spread, and now Dr. Joo Bang Lee is the Supreme Grandmaster of Hwa Rang Do and resides in Downey, California, location of the World Hwa Rang Do Association Headquarters. I starten af 1960'erne fik brødrene tilladelse af Suahm Dosa og den koreanske regering til offentligt at demonstrere og undervise Hwa Rang Do i Korea. Dermed blev Hwa Rang Do for første gang i over 500 år igen undervist offentligt. Da Suahm Dosa døde i 1969 blev Joo Bang Lee udnævnt til den 58.ende generation stormester for Hwa Rang Do. Siden da har Hwarang Do spredt sig over hele verdenen.
