CLOUD CANYON EXPEDITIONS
Wilderness Trips for Women
Cloud Canyon Expeditions offers guided backpacking trips for women in the magical canyon and slickrock country of southern Utah's Escalante River region. A trip into the Utah backcountry, no matter how many times our guides have been there, is a pilgrimage for each one, and it is our intent and our joy to share the transformational experience of a women's wilderness adventure with our participants. We teach all of the basic backcountry skills (more than half of our participants are first-time backpackers), because we believe that once you have learned to travel with confidence through the wilderness you will naturally begin to turn your attention to the nature of the wilderness experience. The magic of the wilderness will do its work on you. In addition to hiking, exploring, learning camping and route-finding skills, our wilderness trips for women emphasize time for meditation, for journal writing, for conversation and laughter, for contemplating the river and watching the stars, and for ritual. We deeply understand and support the spiritual connection women feel with wild nature. In addition to providing challenge and adventure, our trips are retreats for women. Drawing on teachings from meditation, deep ecology, and feminine wisdom, we support deeper connections with the land, with ourselves, and with our companions. Our participants return home with a sense of renewal as well as a deeper sense of what it means to be a human traveler on planet Earth.

Ganaraska Hiking Trail
Ontario Canada
Welcome to the home page of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail You are number to have a look at our information. The Ganaraska Hiking Trail is in the Province of Ontario, Canada, and was developed and is maintained entirely by volunteers. The trail starts in Port Hope, on the north shore of Lake Ontario and after more than 400 kilometres connects with the Bruce Trail near Glen Huron. In Port Hope, the Ganaraska Hiking Trail connects with the Lake Ontario Waterfront Trail. In the Ganaraska Forest, the trail crosses the Oak Ridges (hiking) Trail. In the hills of Oro Township, between Barrie and Orillia, a branch trail veers off to Midland and then turns south, through Wasaga Beach, to rejoin the main trail just east of Glen Huron (the link between the Midland section and the Wasaga section is not yet complete). Including some branch trails, the total length of the trail is in excess of 500 kilometres.

Hiking and Backpacking Montana-The Land of Shining Mountains! Montana is a word borrowed from the Latin expression meaning "mountainous." The rugged Continental Divide zigzags across western Montana from the jagged peaks of Glacier Park to the ancient Beartooth plateau. The potential for hiking and backpacking in Big Sky Country is endless and inviting. And don't forget; when your in the backcounty, it pays to know what to do if you get into an unexpected situation.

From the Mouth of the Mattole or not, but rain is very infrequent. Even in summer plan on chilly nights down near the ocean. Summers in the high mountains can be in the 100+ category; water, and fire danger is a consideration. Always be aware that the areas we are talking of have mountain lions and bear that roam freely. Mountain lions range, as low as, the headlands, but prefer to be away from people. Bear range at the higher levels but both will come down into populated areas during drought conditions. (Store food stuffs correctly!) click image for BLM photo of hike on Big Black Sands Beach Hiking on the lost coast is the first thing that the free spirit wants to do. The coast to the north of Shelter Cove provides a great place to hike, as a day trip or a more prolonged endeavor. Parallel to this stretch of beach known by the locals as "Big Black Sands Beach" are mostly public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The beach is difficult to walk on at times since it is composed of a round sand and each step sinks in at the heel giving a weighed step. But by slowing the pace and/or taking advantage of trails that lift you up onto the bluffs you can make time and preserve energy. There are trails that take off from the beach and lead you along the creeks and streams or up into the mountains and back into the wild public lands that surround Shelter Cove.

175. Newf Goodies- Trail Dog Site
Information on hiking and backpacking with dogs, training tips, sources for supplies, and recipes for dog treats to take on your trip.
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1011/doghike.html
Want to go hiking with your dog?
First, ask yourself a few questions.
Ask them of your dog,too.
  • What exactly do you want to do? Do you want to just go a walk with your pooch at the local park or do you want to backpack in the wilderness for a week or two? What kind of dog do you have? Can he/she carry all of it's gear or will it just be a traveling companion and you have to haul it's supplies? Are you ready for that? Very important!! What is your dogs temperment? Do you enjoy his company at home? If not, you won't like him on the trail. Can he handle all the stimulation that comes with the 'great outdoors'? Or will he go nuts smelling every rock and tree? Why do you want your dog along? Is it for his companionship or to help you carry your gear? Or maybe you want him along for a little protection and security?
  • Now that you have answered those questions honestly you probably have a better idea of how to start. Preparation and training are the keys. We go hiking with our newfoundlands because we enjoy their company. They add alot to our walks. Their extra sensitivity to sound, smells and sights add so much to every outing. "A veteran dog does not need instructions. Once the pack is on his back, he and you are on a plane where speech is not necessary unless an unusual circumstance arises."
