If You Open Your Heart To Them, They Will Open Your Eyes. a 'hound named Jazz waiting to be adopted... click the pic GreyHeart Greyhound Rescue and Adoption of Michigan is devoted to the rescue and
adoption of the retired racing greyhound. It is our objective to place as many greyhounds
as possible into responsible, loving homes and educate the public regarding the suffering and consequences of greyhound racing. We are a registered, non-profit organization. We are completely independent and
supported through donations and fund raising efforts. We are not affiliated with any race track or racing organization and do not condone the greyhound racing industry. The donation received through the placement of each dog, pays for the transportation
and medical costs. This donation, as well as any other, may be tax deductible. We also rely heavily on the efforts of our volunteers. Without their assistance, especially the work of those willing to foster, we could not accomplish our goal. If
YOU are willing to participate, please contact us.

Two Grade A Races in the Wednesday Matinee The matinee cards are getting better and better with all the new greyhounds that are arriving here at Southland for the 2004 season. Four newcomers will make their maiden debut Wednesday after being purchased at the NGA spring meet. In Race 3 Angelic Velocity will start his career for the Fishdog Kennel and B's Patchwork will make her first graded run for CC Kennel. Then in Race 10 , another Fishdog racer, Silver Lee will run her first graded race after bringing a high bid of $3,250 at the spring auction. She won her last schooling race by 7 lengths, which is impressive for a young pup. KB's Foolish Ann is the fourth youngster in Wednesday's matinee. This greyhound brought $9,250 at the auction and she won her last schooling race by 9 lengths with a time of 32.80. Races 11 and 13 are Grade A contests, taking us from the beginners to seasoned veterans. Myokie Emma and U Too Neon look like they will lead the way in Race 11. In Race 13, half the field is looking for multiple consecutive wins, so this should be an exciting finale for an afternoon of live greyhound racing.

WELCOME TO GREAT
GREAT, Inc. is a non-profit Greyhound rescue and adoption organization located in central Florida. We find homes for Greyhounds that can no longer compete in racing. GREAT has placed over a thousand greyhounds since 1990. Although we are not affiliated with the racing industry, we do receive our dogs from the trainers and owners who want to place their retired racers in private homes. We also take in stray greyhounds that have been surrendered to animal shelters. The Greyhounds we receive are evaluated through our foster care program. Foster care provides a temporary home for the Greyhound during its transition from track to home. Our main objectives are to achieve greater public awareness about retired racing Greyhounds available for adoption, and to provide education on how wonderful Greyhounds are as house pets.

The Greyhound
For centuries greyhounds were bred to hunt by outrunning their prey. They are the world's fastest breed of dog because hundreds of years of breeding have given them graceful and athletic bodiesto watch them run is simply breathtaking. because fast bodies and quick minds go together, greyhounds are sensitive and intelligent as well. More recent breeding for racing has not altered these basic characteristics of the greyhound, but has increased their general health and soundness. The end result is one of the most pleasant of breeds. Unfortunately, though, it is a breed not widely known as being very suitable as pets. The greyhound's devotion to people is legendary. Retired greyhounds seem especially grateful to their owners for their new homes. They have never before experienced the love and attention a home and family can bring to them. The greyhound's that we place are usually between two and five years old. Occasionally, we have very special older dogs for special adopters. The dogs weigh between 50 to 80 pounds and stand from 26 to 30 inches tall at the shoulder, with the females usually smaller than males. Greyhounds come in almost any color imaginable with short velvet smooth coats.
