Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition Falconry is the art Art originally was the processes of man, and as such was synonymous with science. Nowadays it can be seen in essence the foremost expression of human creativity. As difficult to define as it is to evaluate, given that each individual artist chooses the rules and parameters that guide her or his work, it can still be said that art is the process and the product of choosing a medium, a set of rules for the use of that medium, and a set of values that determine what deserves to be expressed through that medium, in order to convey either a belief, an idea, a sensation, or a feeling in the most effective way possible for that medium. (See Definition of Art)
Click the link for more information. or sport A sport consists of an everyday activity carried out with a purpose and in an environment different from everyday: for competition, enjoyment, to attain excellence, for the development of skill, or some combination of these. The difference of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of individual (or team) skill or prowess. Therefore jumping over a hurdle in front of thousands in an indoor arena is a sport, whereas jumping a stream during a country walk is simply an attempt to keep one's feet dry.

Conservation of all birds of prey through education, captive breeding, research and rehabilitation. About 300 birds of over 80 species. falconry courses, daily flying demonstrations, birds, history, staff and links. Newent, Gloucestershire.

The National Birds of Prey Centre from the air - 2002 We are open! The National Birds of Prey Centre will be open as normal until the 31 st of October 2004. The plans for next year are still "up in the air" so watch this space for further news. WHAT IS THE NATIONAL BIRDS OF PREY CENTRE? We are one of the oldest, probably the largest and certainly the best known and respected specialist collection of birds of prey in the world. Housing approximately 250 birds of over 85 species, the Centre leads the world in the number of species bred in captivity. To date 60 species have been bred here, with new species laying eggs each year. MISSION STATEMENT
The National Birds of Prey Centre achieves its conservation of birds of prey
through Education, Captive Breeding, Research and Rehabilitation. MIGRATION DELAYED ........................ The planned migration of birds from The National Birds of Prey Centre at Newent in Gloucestershire to South Carolina in the US has been delayed. Following advice from four internationally known veterinarians it has been decided to delay moving the birds from Newent to Charleston SC, because of a mosquito-borne disease called West Nile Virus that is infecting birds in the US. A vaccine is being developed specifically for birds of prey, but is not yet available.

These bells have an excellent tone and are louder than the original Peelsbells. As the light hits the bells they
change colour
and become more visible. Trials have shown that these bells are more durable than almost all other bells but have kept there very light weight. Over the last four years I have been working on a Falconry Bell design which is light weight and very strong. The material which I have found to work best is beryllium. This gives the bell a great tone but is still light in weight. I have designed four sizes each weighing less than 4 grams which will not hinder the bird when it is fitted. These bells are to aerospace spec, they give off a distinctive sound, and are hard wearing. The heat treatment process cuts down the effects of cracking which will lengthen the life of the bell by 50%.

The Marion duPont Scott Sporting Collection
Marion duPont Scott (1894-1983) was an internationally renowned Virginia horse breeder and owner of Montpelier, James Madison's Orange County home. Montpelier Races , still held each November at Montpelier; thousands attend each year. In 1985, her important collection of books and periodicals on the history and practice of equestrian and related sports was bequeathed to the Special Collections Department at the University of Virginia. The collection reflects Mrs. Scott's lifetime interest in and patronage of racing, coaching, hunting and horse breeding. Along with her generous gift of approximately 1,200 titles, she gave an endowment fund that would allow the University of Virginia Library to continue to build the collection, as well as a monetary gift to be used for the construction the new Special Collections Library Building. Mrs. Scott's collection is at the same time the working library of a horse breeder and the library of a rare book collector; it contains items of interest to the historian and horse enthusiast alike, with periodicals and books both antiquarian and modern. http://www.dnr.state.md.us/wildlife/falconry.html
Falconry Permit/License
Falconry is the sport of taking wildlife by means of a trained raptor. A person may not practice falconry within the state unless he first submits to the Department of Natural Resources a completed application form, provided by the Department, and approved by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, including all information required on the form.
A falconry permit may not be issued until the applicant has answered correctly at least 80 percent of the questions given on a supervised examination, provided by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and administered regionally by the DNR's Wildlife and Heritage Service.
A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service permit is required for each person within the State of Maryland to possess a raptor for the purposes of falconry.
If you are interested in becoming a licensed falconer in the State a Maryland, there are three classes of permits for which you may apply: Apprentice Class, General Class, or Master Class. Apprentice Class Applicants must be at least 14 years old and must have a sponsor who holds a General or Master Falconry Permit. A Falconry Apprentice Permittee must have a sponsor for a minimum of two years. The sponsor may not have more than three apprentices at any one time. Also, an Apprentice may not possess more than one raptor (and may only possess the American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, or Red-shouldered Hawk) and may not obtain more than one raptor for replacement during any 12-month period.

From here you can find out about Training a Bird of Prey. falconry Equipment. How Birds of Prey Hunt. falconry, also known as hawking, is an ancient art.
    http://www.falconhigh.btinternet.co.uk/about_falconry.htm
From here you can find out about: Training a Bird of Prey Falconry Equipment How Birds of Prey Hunt Falconry , also known as hawking, is an ancient art. The sport of flying a raptor either in the hunt , or for the pleasure of the falconer or an audience, has been practiced for many hundreds of years, Falconers train and fly falcons, whilst those who work with hawks are called austringers. Many different types of bird, including hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, osprey and kites can be trained and flown for pleasure either individualy or in public displays. Falconry is a sport which requires dedication on the part of the falconer and extreme respect for the bird he is flying. Originally developed as a more efficient means of hunting than a bow and arrow, falconry demands a range of expertise and skill of the falconer, including field craft and leather craft. Perhaps the earliest pictorial record of falconry is on the walls of Ancient Egyptian tombs. Historical references also exist in Arab, English, Russian and Chinese records. It was practiced in Asia as early as the 8th Century BC. In the middle ages it was a favourite pastime of the nobility and was revived in the 18th Century even though shooting was by then more popular, Many species of natural British birds of prey became listed as "near extinction" following the introduction and wide spread use of firearms. Interest in falconry was at its peak from 500 - 1600 AD. During this period it became a highly regulated and popular art among nearly all European social classes. In Britain, falconry went beyond a sport for royalty, or being practiced as a necessity, instead its popularity approached that of a modern day "craze" or "fad" and became a status symbol in medieval society.
