Boundary Country Trekking's response follows each question and appears in bold How long have you been in the sled dog tour business? In 1978 we started a touring business with our own dogs. We had sixteen to twenty five dogs. As our business grew we began to hire local area mushers to assist in our program. Ten years ago we sold our dogs and contracted with a local musher to provide all the dogs and mushers for our program. For the last six years Arleigh Jorgenson has run our dog sledding program. Arleigh has been in the dog sledding business for over twenty-two years. We feel he is one of North America's most experienced mushers. Who actually conducts the trips? Our trips are a joint venture with Arleigh Jorgenson Kennel. We provide the lodging/meals and logistical support, Arleigh provides the dogs, dog equipment and mushers. What are their qualifications and experience? Arleigh has been training and mushing for over twenty years Other staff hired are personally trained by Arleigh or Arleigh's professional dog mushing staff. Before any musher leads any of our trips, they must go through Arleigh's training program at the kennel and have at least one year of mushing experience on the trail. Dog Sledding Trips The following is an article written by Heather Mundt, a writer and resident of Denver, CO, following her adventure with Denali Dog Sled Expeditions. Howl of the Wild ....I sit in the basket of a toboggan sled, watching the fluid line of sled dogs run before me, a kaleidoscope of fur disrupting the infinitely white landscape. An Alaskan told me winters here are black and white and many shades of gray. But that Spartan palette is also infused with muted maroon and yellow vegetation, interrupted in the distance by snow-dusted spruces and craggy mountains. From my low vantage point, I notice dwarf birches, their naked branches black against the snow. We travel through walls of frosty willow bushes, the leaves a salmon-colored blur, and I shield my eyes from their reaching, skeletal limbs. It's day one of our three-day dog sledding adventure. Jon Nierenberg, a 21 year mushing veteran, will guide us during the excursion. "I think taking people on a guided tour into the park is an authentic way to see it, and is something that satisfies the people who want to do adventure travel," he says. "It's a living history type of thing. It's very similar to the way it used to be done in the old days."

Near the main entrance is a day use area, with wading pool, picnic area, fields and restrooms. The remainder of the forest offers 50 miles of unpaved roads and trails. Horseback riders, dog Sledders, mountain bikers, and seasonal motorcycle and snowmobile users are welcome, as are hunters and anglers in season. Rattlesnake Brook, which meanders throughout much of the property, is stocked with brook trout each spring. Profile Rock, a 50-foot outcropping, shows a profile of what the Wampanoags believe to be Chief Massasoit. The 5,441-acre Forest also includes the 227-acre Watuppa Reservation, which belongs to the Wampanoag Nation, and is the site of annual tribal meetings.
