Commentary- Stork Most players have arrived and played the course. Weather has been very warm, but not as bad as MN. the course is very challenging with some OB that is "the Amazon on the Alps." No hope of finding...ever. The greens are very tough with all having a good bit of slope and OB threat. Match play will be very strategic. More practice and opening ceremonies for the games in Akita City tomorrow. All players now have arrived. Morning practice for most, then to the Opening Ceremonies....Opening was amazing, Olympic-style gala. Looked like all of Akita was involved. Some great freestyle from Bill Wright and Larry Imperiale stole the show... Juliana Korver is the flagbearer for WFDF and disc sports. 16:00 staff and player meeting covered all competition arrangements in great detail. 05:00 Weather calm and clear. Opening golf ceremony at 08:30 featurde bands and many dignitaries. Players were all introduced to much fanfare. Word was that Jesper Lundmark of Sweden had hurt his back in practice yesterday, but was feeling ready to play today. The 25 hour plane ride may have affected him. Round One featured a quick upset in womens as Niloofar Mossava Rahmani of Sweden surprised most by taking Elaine King of Canada 3 holes to 2 won.

Horizons Park Disc Golf Horizons Park is located in northern Forsyth County in the Piedmont area of North Carolina. The park opened in 1981 and is home to the oldest permanent disc golf course in the state. The course was designed by Tom Monroe, and features DGA Mach II baskets. Built before the advent of bevel-edged discs, the course is extremely short by modern standards at a mere 3673 feet (I can remember playing the course with a Wham-O lid in 1982, and being overwhelmed by the distance!). Horizons offers stunning views of nearby Pilot and Sauratown Mountain. The course is home to the Horizons Park Classic, a PDGA event which routinely draws top pros such as Stan McDaniel and Larry Leonard. The Classic is in its 16th year, making it one of the oldest regular tournaments in the state. Horizons has been described as a perfect beginner's course. Its short holes, ease of access, and mild terrain give novices a good taste of the sport. However, these same factors can make the course frustrating for the experienced player. On weekends, the course is swarming with families and children, most of whom are unaware of the potential danger of, for example, having a picnic on a fairway. The short holes serve to "level the playing field" in tournaments. A gorilla arm is not required, so on any given day, an Am has a chance to shoot within a few strokes of a Pro. Tournament rounds of 17 under are not uncommon, and I have watched a casual round of 20 under.

Take the right turn just before the bridge crossing that goes north along the Spokane river into Riverside Park. You only go about a mile before you see a parking lot that could hold 20 cars at most. Park there and walk over the hump to the first hole. HIGHBRIDGE COURSE: From downtown Spokane take Riverside West down the long hill under Browne's Addition, to just past People's Park take A Street left and go up the hill to the parking. Looking uphill on A Street go into the fireroad entrance on left and take a right looking on pavement for paint for tee#1 and look uphill for the basket.
