The American Classic 420 Cyclocross Wheelset is the ultimate for riders seeking performance from a deep section, lightweight clincher wheelset. The light weight of these wheelsets will make hefting the bike around on your shoulder that bit easier! Bill Shook designed the 420 rim and it's manufacturing process. It is produced from a proprietary alloy, which is extremely light, and enables the rim weight to be kept at a very low 420gms. The rim is then extruded using a proprietary process. No other manufacturer on the planet has been able to produce such a lightweight rim of this depth. Rim depth is 34mm. These are the wheels of choice of Adam Hodges Myerson, who races for Sportsbook.com, and is the Head Coach for Cycle-Smart.com . One of Adam's claims to fame this year was a stage win in the Tour of Ireland. Adam has three pairs of Cyclocross 420s for all of his bikes. Remember, if you break 'em crossin', there is no warranty on the rims. We do offer a nice crash replacement policy.

History
Cross-country cycling, or cyclocross, was created by a young French soldier, Daniel Gousseau, about 1900. Gousseau, who later became secretary-general of the French Cycling Union, frequently rode his bicycle over rough trails through difficult country, alongside a general on horseback. Then he got some friends involved and, in 1902, he organized the first French championship race. Cyclocross was pretty much confined to France until the 1920s, but by 1924 riders from enough countries were involved that the first international race was held in Paris. Most of the entrants were road racers who used cyclocross to stay in shape during the winter. The cyclocross specialist didn't emerge until the 1970s. The first world cyclocross championship was held in 1950 and the first U. S. national championship was held in 1975. A typical cyclocross course is a narrow loop, 1 to 2 miles long, that includes natural obstacles, such as streams, muddy areas, and fallen trees, combined with man-made obstacles, such as fences and hay bales. About one-quarter of the course is unrideable, so a cyclist has to dismount and run while carrying the bike.

***Clearances/Tolerances*** Groundskeeper frames are designed to incorporate good mud clearance for tires up to 35c
This allows frames to be used with most typical road crank/bb and mountain crank/bb setups. Clearance for fatter tires changes tolerances and will change chainline, and not for the better.
These are specs from our 2002 stock frames to give you an idea of the basic dimensions of our frames. Since we are only doing custom frames now, your frame will be made to fit you and will differ from these dimensions based on your personal fit requirements.

Cyclocross
Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition Cyclocross is a version of cycling usually participated in by roadies over the fall and winter months. The equipment is a heavy duty road bike equipped with cantilevered or other mountain bike style brakes, heavy duty rims and nobbed tires. The course is over grass and smooth dirt trails with obstacles set up requiring the rider to dismount, jump the barrier and then remount on the fly. Some riders will bunny hop A bunny hop is a cycling trick that involves the rider lifting their bike over an obstacle while remaining on the bike and in motion. A bunny hop is carried out by approaching an obstacle at speed and leveling the pedals. If the rider's bike has suspension (full or just front) they would need to pre-load the shocks by pressing down just before the obstacle. The rider has to time this with

Redline Cross 2003 Sure, you can race cyclocross with our Redline Conquest and Conquest Pro bikes. They have swept he US National Cyclocross Championships for several years running! Redline's team rides stock Redline Conquest Pro bikes, a real team bike being just $XXXX. Our Conquest ( the Yellow one) uses the same identical frame but with a more practical parts package for a lower ($XXX) price tag. That said, many of our customers switch these bikes to smooth tires like the Michelin Tracer 700-32 or IRC's Metro 700-38 for a great handling Sunday morning club bike that's snappy, light and has just a little more width to clear an ample tire with fenders. That's lacking in race bikes nowadays and even some nice "sport touring" bikes are hard pressed to get a 700-30, let alone mudguards, under the brakes. Popular options include mudguards, rear racks and triple cranksets. Oh, and if you're racing cross, keep the light Velo saddle- otherwise get something more comfy. As always we hope you'll take a moment to look at the spec thoroughly and let us build it with the stuff you like- it's so boring when they are all alike and we're good at listening. Think of this new modern bike as a throwback to the days when bike designers all let you do sensible things like that! With a set of Bruce Gordon cable splitters you can even change from flat bars to drop bars quickly- the Redlines already have a front-off handlebar stem. Here are the specs for 2003. We barely wrangled a readable scan from the one page of their catalog that's black on red this year

Cyclocross Cyclocross, a popular fall cycling event in Europe has been experiencing continued growth in popularity in the US and Canada. It is a sport where both road and mountain bikers meet. Cross racing requires skills gained in both disciplines. It is a perfect venue for those riders wishing to extend their competitive seasons.
Velo NB riders have fared very well at the Canadian Cyclocross National Championships in recent years. Peter Wedge has been the reigning senior mens champion for several years, winning for the fourth time in 2000. Last year he was joined on the Nats podium by Mathew Hadley, who took a silver in the Junior mens category. Greg George just missed a bronze in the Espoir category finishing 4 th and Anna Healy finished fifth in a strong womens field.

You can use your mountain bike for most cyclocross racing as long as you remove the bar ends. National level events may be more restrictive although the trend of accepting mountain bike entries has been growing. Of course if you want to have the best advantage on any national or international level cross course worth its salt you will want a cyclocross bike.

What is Cyclo-Cross? The classic image of cyclo-cross is the high speed dismount-remount manoeuvre. This takes place when the bike is to be carried on the shoulder up a particularly steep or muddy incline, or else when an obstacle on the course cannot be ridden. In terms of technique, cyclo-cross is one of the most difficult forms of cycle racing. The bicycle resembles the road machine, with its dropped handlebars, 700C size wheels and relatively narrow tyres. Yet the conditions for these two disciplines could hardly be more different. For a start cyclo-cross is a winter-time sport. Woodland trails, open meadows, and short, steep hills are the main features of a cyclo-cross course. Normally the circuit is in the region of 2.5-3km, and the race duration around one hour.
The sport had its first world championship in Paris in 1950. In the early years, cyclo-cross was thought of only as an accessory to road racing. The intense work of the one-hour race and the use of narrow tyres on muddy hills made a good combination to hone both fitness and handling skills.
Gradually cyclo-cross specialists emerged, and the sport became dominated by riders who were little known in road racing. Apart from some notable exceptions - led by Adri Van der Poel - this remains the case today. Yet cyclo-cross stars do feature prominently at the top level of mountain bike racing - a sport far closer related to cyclo-cross than to road.
