Camogie
Officers and Committee
Camogie was played in Tramore for a brief period about 1946 and was revived in 1952 but had a rather short existence. No efforts were made to revive the sport in the 1960's or 1970's. Then in November of 1982 Patsy Flanagan called a meeting of interested parties who opted to form a Camogie Club in the town.
The following committee was elected to run the new Club: Chairperson: Geraldine Sullivan, Secretary: Gaye Gavin, Treasurer: Theresa Murray. Committee members: Bernie Cowman, Bernie Carbery, Joan Burns, Eilish Walsh, Caroline McCormack, and Olive Flanagan.
Tramore entered a team in the Junior Championship and so training commenced in the month of March 1983 under a hard task master in Tommy Fleming. President : Fr. Pat Cooney

Sarsfields Camogie Club
This Year looks to be both promising and rewarding for the club. Already many things are being orgainised to promote camogie in the area.
As some of you may already know, this year is the centenary year of An Cumann Luthcleas Geal Camogiochta. In honour of this the club will be hosting special events to commemorate this date. The first of which will be La na gClub. This will involve a fun day for the club members to play camogie in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
La na gClub takes place Saturday 10th April starting at 2pm. Activities on the day will include a treasure hunt, a skills competition, guess who, and a celebrity match to round off the day. All age groups are expected throughout the day and fun for all is guaranteed.
Training for the Junior A team is started in the all weather pitches every Monday night at eight o clock. This will not only improve fitness for the months to come, but also is great fun to take part in.
Juvenile training, which is for 7 to 15 year olds, is to begin on Saturday the 28th of Febuary in the all weather pitches from 12 to 1 o'clock. A range of reliable coaches will be present to direct and supervise on these mornings and it will be very enjoyable for the players.

    ST. RITA'S CAMOGIE CLUB
Camogie first came to Fethard in 1912 but no records of that club have sur-vived. St Rita's Camogie club was founded in 1962. The revival of the camogie club was brought about by the popular star camogie player, Kitty O'Flaherty (R.I.P.), and the late Fr. Cooke who throughout the sixties did tremendous work for the club. The first annual general meeting of St Rita's Camogie club was held in 1963 and the following were the officers elected: Rev Fr. Cooke, Chairman; Miss A Mahon, vice-chairman; M Moloney, secretary and A O'Brien, treasurer. The panel of players was Vera Purcell, Peggy Carroll, Joan Russell, Louise O'Meara, Breda Delahunty, Patricia O'Halloran, Mary Moloney, Tossie Carroll, Peggy Russell, Ann Sheehan, Margaret Fitzgerald, Nancy Purcell, Pauline Ryan, Teresa Ryan, Ester Ryan, Alice Long, Kathleen Byrne and Mary McCormack. The girls did the town of Fethard proud by winning both the South and County Intermediate titles in both 1964 and 1965. Two titles back to back in such a short time was a remarkable achievement but by 1966 the camogie club in Fethard had started to fade away. The more recent revival of camogie in Fethard was due mainly to the work of Tossie Lawton, who was better known as Tossie Carroll from the winning teams of the sixties. The club retained the successful name of St Rita's and the annual general meeting took place on the 30th July 1987. The following officers were elected: Tossie Lawton, Chairperson; Margaret Quinlan, secretary and Mary Kenrick, treasurer.

    CAMOGIE
Camogie is the native field game akin to hurling and is renowned for skill and speed, for personal enjoyment by the player and for appeal to the spectator. Camogie has to be one of the most played sports by both young and not so young Irish girls. Based on the rules of hurling which is also an old Irish game for men, camogie can seem dangerous to a stranger but not to the girls who with a passion love this sport . Two teams of twelve girls, battle it out, with what look like sticks but which are called hurls. Chasing after a ball which is called a sliotar. The objective of the game is to bring the ball either on your hurl or dribbling on the ground towards your opponents goals and scoring. The goals are a little different than usual goals there a small version of rugby posts. A goal is scored when the sliotar goes between the goal post (just like a goal in hockey). A point is scored when the ball travels between the two vertical posts over the goal post. There are three points in every goal hence the point is much easier to score.

camogie. camogie has been played in Douglas since the early part of the 20thcentury. At present there are over 50 camogie clubs within the county.
    http://www.douglasgaa.com/02History/Camogie.htm
Camogie Camogie is the female version of hurling, a game that is unique to Ireland. It is played with a timber stick , similar in shape to a hockey stick. However in camogie, unlike hockey, players can pick the ball onto the hurley and into the hand, solo (carry the ball on the flat of the stick while running), and strike the ball from the hands or ground. The goal consists of posts similar to those on a rugby pitch and scores occur when a ball (sliotar - made of leather and about the size of a tennis ball), is struck between the posts. A goal (counts as 3 point) when the ball goes under the cross-bar while a point is given when the ball goes between the uprights. Teams consist of fifteen players. Competitions are organised by the Cork County City Division The Douglas club has a very active playing membership ranging from Under 7 to over-30. There are currently over 100 registered players. The club is fortunate to have access to the GAA club facilities which include two full size playing pitches and fantastic indoor facilities . Training for the various age-groups take place on different nights of the week and can vary depending on the pitch availability. During the winter, indoor training was held for the various teams. In 1999 the adult players had two aerobic training sessions in the hall weekly which proved very popular while the younger players has indoor matches.

The camp will run Monday to Friday July 5th to July 9th, 10.00a.m. to 3.00p.m. each day. We will cater for girls from 6 years to 14 years and boys from 6 years to 8 years. The cost is €50 1st child, €30 2nd child in family. Bookings by the end of month to Mairéad or Doireann at camogie training on Fridays. (forms are available on Saturday mornings.) The U.12 team have started their league and were disappointed to go down by a point to St. Finbarr's, better luck next time. The U.14 team have lost one league game to a much stronger Courcey Rovers team but have improved and are in second place with two games to play. We had no luck in the Féile Blitz which was held in Blackrock on 22nd. Paul O'Sullivan was appointed as one of the reherees for the section and did very well in his first outing as a neutral referee. As part of the centenary year the County Board are picking a team of stars to parade in Ballinlough before the Féile Final on Thursday. Róisín deFaoite will represent Blackrock. We wish Róisín the best of luck in the All-Ireland U.14 Blitz next weekend in Ballyanly when she lines out with Cork.
