Birmingham Camogie Centenary Tournament 2004 We had an absolutely fantastic time at Birmingham for the Centenary Tournament. Participating teams were Erin go Bragh (Birmingham) - Hosts; Clondalkin Round Towers (Dublin), Croydon (London), Tir Chonnail Harps (Glasgow) and ourselves. The whole event was a success and we enjoyed every minute of it. All the games were very competitive, played in good spirit and all the teams got on well together - now that's why we play camogie!! The Tournament was also the launch of The History of Camogie in Britain book and display, which was compiled by Helena Duignan of Erin go Bragh. This book is on sale and if you would like a copy contact us or Helena on 0121 605 3465 or 0798 956 0922 or email: helena.duignan@virgin.net. Only £6.95 per book. Tara did extremely well considering we were mainly playing against teams that consisted of a mixture of senior and junior players. At the end of Day 1 we had knotched up 2 wins, a draw and just the 1 loss.

St. Patrick's Camogie Club, Keady are a club associated with a long record of achievements and triumphs dating back as far as the 1920's. Keady is a club with very strong roots in the local community with many families in the area connected directly to the club and its aspirations.
For Keady, now at the top of the Senior ladder, being the Ulster Champions 2001 , it took a few years to make that all important break - through, and therefore they intend to be around for some time to come. Though that might prove to be even more difficult, they certainly have the talent coming through which should enable them to be a force in the future.
The Senior team being the Ulster Champions, are a source of inspiration to the number of young players in the club who, no doubt, look to the day they too will wear the maroon and gold jersey of the Senior side.

What is Camogie?
Camogie is the female version of hurling. The game of hurling is unique to Ireland and is one of the fastest field games in the world. It has always been a huge part of our culture and heritage and is our national sport. Hurling and camogie are very skillful games. Hurleys: Players use sticks called 'hurleys' which are made of ash wood and are between 30 and 37 inches in length with a broad end. The part of the hurley used to strike the ball is known as the 'bas'. The ball in hurling and camogie is known as a 'sliothar'.
Teams: A camogie and hurling team consists of 15 players and a number of substitutes. The substitutes can be called into play at any stage of the game. The team's manager chooses a starting fifteen and substitutes from a 'panel' of players. A maximum of three substitutes may be used in a game. Every hurling and camogie team has a goalkeeper, six defenders, two midfielders and six forwards. Lineout for 15-A-Side Game

34. History Of Camogie In Carrigaline, Carrigdhoun, Cork, Ireland
The 1st camogie Club. History of camogie. The origins of camogie date back to1903 when a club in Dublin The Keating Club applied rules to their game.
http://www.carrigalinecamogie.com/club_history.htm
The 1st Camogie Club- With the resurgence of hurling in 1922, the ladies of Carrrigaline, not leaving all the honours for the taking to the menfolk, formed a Camogie team. Training was held in Bat Cooneys - the field at the rear of Tom Scannell's house near the present soccer pitch where there were many memorable encounters, in particular with Monkstown who also had a great camogie team at that time. Matches were also played on the Crosshaven Road in Sisk's field, within 100 metres of the present day pavillion. Here it is recalled was played a memorable match between a Cork City team and Carrigline who were captained by Kit Sweeney, who played centre-field.
The 2nd Camogie Club (1938-1941)- Following many years of inactivity a camogie club was once again formed in the spring of 1938. In the 30's some ladies had played with Ballygarvan and were the nucleus of the Carrigaline side. This Carrigaline team could not be classed as great for a while, they had won a number of matches each year but failed to win any competitions.

Please sign our guest book during your visit Cuchullains Dunloy at the present time caters for approximately twenty-one teams male and female, adult and juvenile. Because there are so many players and administrators involved and because our catchment area is so small the role of the club is of vital importance to the local community. We provide good healthy recreation for all the children of the area in an atmosphere that is safe and secure and all parents know that the children are supervised in an appropriate manner in our grounds. Almost every night during the summer matches are played and many of the non-playing members of our community come along to watch. Cuchullain was the greatest, the most belauded, and the most dazzling of all the heroes in Irish mythology. His life, wondrous deeds, remarkable beauty and incredible strength are retold in countless stories.

History The following articles are taken from various Camogie Annuals and serve as background information on the Club's history and achievements to date. Croydon's Camogie Club
by Mary MacArthur
(Camogie Annual 2001) The determination which showed back in 1999, when this club looked like folding, is still prevalent today in Croydon Camogie Club. Despite a number of setbacks during the season, the club has managed to field all its scheduled fixtures with the exception of one, which was due to the bereavement of a family member of two of the players. It has been a busy year for Croydon, both on and off the playing field. In March, members of the club presented shamrock to the Mayor of Croydon in the Mayor's Parlour, whilst others performed a number of Irish dancers for the Mayor and invited guests. Players helped with the raising of the Irish flag outside the Croydon Council's offices to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
