A Bit of History
Latest News No more Military Broomball, budget cut have killed this wonderful sport.
Borden has hosted the last CF Broomball National 22-27 Feb. 2003.
Broomball Events A Bit of History by Gary Hadwen e-mail: hadwen@sympatico.ca CFB Trenton played broomball prior to 1970, but the first organized league in Trenton began in the 1970-71 season at the arena on the Base. In the beginning, the four or five civilian teams were fairly competitive with each other but they were no match for the CFB Trenton team, which won several military championships during those first few years. One of the teams, eventually sponsored by Custom Auto Body, improved enough to become competitive with the base team, even defeating them on occasion. Beginning in the 1974-75 season, Custom Auto Body scored a record three-year run of going undefeated during regular season and playoffs. They were still undefeated when the league disbanded following the 1976-77 season.

This page is entirely devoted to one of the greatest ice sports ever invented, Broomball. The violence, the glory, the falling on one's ass. There aren't too many sites out there for the sport, but you've got to start somewhere.
Iowa State University offer broomball two seasons a year through ISU intramurals , men's or women's in the fall, and co-recreational in the spring.
Since no skating is required, broomball is one of the easiest sports to pick up. Perhaps most important is that broomball is a non-contact sport (in theory), and so players of all skill levels can compete without fear of anything but falling on one's ass. There's not too much to say about it, you whack the ball with the stick and try to hit a goal, hopefully not your own.
There's equipment a-plenty: Shoes (although sneakers will do), Helmets , Pads are really useful but not necessary, and the all important, throw 'em off for a fight gloves With these things and a broom ( A.K.A "Stick with Orange Stuff" ), you are ready to rock the ice... And any opposing players in the way.
There are a few things you should know Rules of the Game A look at the Rink

Throughout the planet (and, as well as we can guess, the Galaxy), people have created various sports with which to waste their time. Some of the more famous Earth sports include baseball, hockey, football (American), and soccer (known to all non-Americans as football). These all have complex rules and histories and boring things like that. One sport which is far from this list, and also far superior due to its minimization of the rule books, is broomball. Broomball was most likely invented by drunk Americans working their way through college as janitors. The sport involves using a broom to hit a small ball (as well as opponents) around an ice rink toward goals at either end of the ice. Broomball is very similar to hockey, but lacking in a few respects: fewer pads, fewer rules, and absolutely no skates. Footwear modified in any way to allow easy travel on the ice is forbidden. This prevents people from moving fast enough to actually kill one another, although the occasional broken bone is not uncommon. The game consists of two forty minute halves, and any ties are played out in a series of five minute sudden-death overtimes.

What is Broomball ? Broomball is a form of hockey for the skating impaired! Instead of playing hockey on skates, you can play Broomball in the comfort of your own shoes. It has all the fun of a hockey game without the bruises! Broomball is played the same as ice hockey; the ball is advanced down the ice with the use of a broom and a ball instead of sticks and pucks. Not only is this a great team building activity, but also a popular recreational sport.
The Chiller has the necessary equipment; you bring your most comfortable sneakers and we'll provide the rest! Gloves and any extra padding are suggested.
Call to schedule a game or get a group together to form a league. . . Broomball is sure to "sweep" you off our feet!
For all group event and ice rental questions or to reserve your time, contact Constance Hensel, 791-9999 ext. 126 or email Constance.
