Modified Rules. The team of 11 comprises partially sighted players and totally blind players. The partially sighted players are further divided into Partially A and Partially B categories. Partially B players are those who, in the previous season, averaged less than eight runs whilst batting. The game of blind cricket is single-ended; that is, there is only one batsman at a time. The batsman is permitted a caller who will stand behind the wicket-keeper and may give the batsman a 'call' as to whether the ball is 'straight', 'off' or 'leg'.
All forms of dismissal from sighted cricket apply except for catching. Partially sighted players who avoid going out when batting are obliged to retire after either scoring 30 runs or facing 8 overs. Similarly, a totally blind batsman must retire after facing 16 overs. Bowling restrictions also apply to categories of players. ie. A Partially A bowler may only bowl to a Partially A batsman, A Partially B bowler may bowl at a Partially B or Partially A batsman, and so on. The pitch has a line marked half way along its length. For a delivery to be legal, it must bounce on both sides of this line.

Blind cricket is heading for the Caribbean with the West Indies about to set up their first team. The England blind cricket team and former stars Desmond Haynes and Devon Malcolm will help the move which will increase the sport's growing international network. Also assisting is the London Community Cricket Association, which set up and coached the England team. England blind cricket team coach Andy Sellins said: "West Indies is one of only two Test playing nations not to have a blind team. The blind players impress Malcolm "But the island is mad keen on cricket and I know the idea of the game being played by blind and visually impaired players really grips people's imaginations." England star Tim Gutteridge agreed: "Such is the enthusiasm out there I'm sure they'll be beating us in a few years. "But it goes beyond sport as it will help those with a disability and those without the opportunities to develop and maximise their talents." There are few better equipped to help achieve that goal - Gutteridge was voted Player of the Tournament in last year's Blind Cricket World Cup in India.

It is more than two years since the national teams of India and Pakistan met on a cricket field. The ongoing stand-off between the two governments over disputed territory in Kashmir has deprived supporters of the chance to watch one of the game's great rivalries. The two teams are due to meet again at next year's World Cup in South Africa, perhaps the most eagerly awaited match of the first round group phase. But, meanwhile, bridges are being built further down the cricket ladder. India and Pakistan played each other at the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year, with Pakistan coming out on top by two wickets. Pakistan's team struggled to find funding
