Backcountry skiing = untracked powder snow Backcountry skiing, ski touring, ski/snowboard mountaineering, hut trips....all of these words suggest skiing/snowboarding the untracked powder snow. There is nothing like it! It is an extension to ski resort area skiing that awakens the soul bringing you into the present as never before. And, with today's alpine touring equipment most advanced intermediate alpine skier or snowboarder (w/split boards) can experience the out-of-bounds untracked powder snow. Backcountry around Aspen is either accessed by uphill skiing or a ski area lift 'off-piste'. It can encompass a scenic modest ski tour in the winter wilderness or a fairly rigorous ski ascent/descent. We suggest one of the following itineraries:

The snow pillow reading for that day showed 14.03 inches of water, so that can give you an idea of actual depth vs. the water content shown on the pillow. backcountry skiing. 14ers.com. A specific set of skills is required to ski in the backcountry. WHERE TO GO Colorado has tons of great backcountry skiing.
http://www.14ers.com/ski.html
Backcountry Skiing A specific set of skills is required to ski in the backcountry. Ski routes can be steep, dangerous, and difficult. On many routes, a fall could be fatal. Skiing in the backcountry is much different than visiting the ski area and the route difficulties should not be compared directly to ski area standards. A novice backcountry ski route does not mean that it is as easy as a green trail at the ski area - it means that the route is recommended for novice backcountry skiers. Novice and Intermediate trails at the ski area are often groomed and free of most obstacles.
14er and other high peak skiing is difficult. It's usually about taking one run after a long ascent. There's no warm-up run and you're making a descent with a lot of gear on questionable terrain. If conditions are good and you picked the right location, it can be fantastic. I remember the first time I drove to Hoosier Pass and saw ski tracks off the summit of Mt. Lincoln and down the Lincoln Amphitheatre - I was hooked.
EQUIPMENT: WHERE TO GO Colorado has tons of great backcountry skiing. Most of it is accessed only by expert skiers because of location and difficulty. While many of us have secret spots that draw few skiers, there is an abundance of terrain that can be easily accessed by most skiers. Loveland Pass is the perfect example - it gets a lot of visitors because they can park, hike, ski, and repeat. If you're an experienced backcountry skier, you will likely look for the solitude and challenge of a place beyond Loveland Pass. The options are limitless. If you need to stay near the Front Range, here are a few peaks to consider for a spring ski:

Exum Guides to present at Peak Performance Weekend

Exum Mountain Guide Brian Prax will present training-specific strategies for mountaineering at the annual Peak Performance Weekend, June 5-6 in Jackson Hole, WY. Provided by Grand Dynamics, Inc., the Weekend is filled with presenters providing strategies on overall fitness, nutrition, mental focus, and goal setting. The Weekend is a component of "The Grand Adventure," a cutting-edge training program that culminates with an ascent of the Grand Teton. Also at the Peak Performance Weekend (Sat. evening), Exum guide Stephen Koch will present an inspirational slide show on his Seven Summits Quest, including his recent expedition on Mount Everest and climbing the Grand Teton. Three-day ski camp great success During May 3-5, Exum guide Kevin Pusey led three clients, ages 22-50, for three days of ski mountaineering training and adventure. The first part of day one was spent reviewing basic snow skills at the top of the Jackson Hole Ski Area accessed via the aerial tram. Day one finished in Corbet's Couloir with dynamic rope skills such as rappelling and belaying. Day two began with descent of Corbet's, and then culminated with a lot of skiing and skinning practice in Tower 3 Chute. With an early start on day three, the team attempted a ski descent of Buck Mountain, clicking into their skis just shy of the summit due to warm conditions.

Doug Geeting Aviation
Skiing and Camping Expedition Transport "I admire and respect competence. That's why I fly with Doug." Phil Ershler, International Mountain Guides DGA provides flights into Denali's most spectacular ski locations including Little Switzerland and the Ruth Amphitheater, where the Mountain House Hut is located. Little Switzerland (Pica Glacier) is aptly named; it is a beautiful glacier-filled bowl surrounded by granite spires with names like "The Trolls" and "The Crown Jewels." It is a great place to camp for a week or two, skiing the slopes and climbing the peaks as the mood strikes you. It has less airplane traffic than the Ruth Amphitheater (also called the Don Sheldon Amphitheater). MOUNTAIN HOUSE
DGA is the recommended air transportation company for travelers to The Mountain House in the Don Sheldon (Ruth) Amphitheater. Constructed at 6,000 ft. on a five acre rock and ice outcrop of the Ruth Glacier in 1966, the Mountain House is a modest shelter for mountaineers, skiers, photographers and wilderness seekers. Expeditions and others interested in more information about The Mountain House can contact Roberta Sheldon, Alaska Retreat, PO Box 292, Talkeetna, AK 99676. Phone 907-733-2414.
