Autocross is an extremely inexpensive and safe way to participate in competitive motorsports. In general, any safe, street legal vehicle can compete without any significant modifications (although heavily modified vehicles may be at a disadvantage due to the rules structure a heavily prepared, supercharged drag racer is unlikely to make a good and competitive autocross car.) Autocross and Solo II events are "Time Trial" style competitions; there is no wheel to wheel racing involved, as cars are sent out one at a time, or at least spaced out so that they should not come into any contact with each other. These events are derived from the original Gymkhana competitions from 50s and 60s. Today, an event called a Gymkhana is usually a "fun" event, with slow speeds and silly tricks. An event called an Autocross or Solo II is usually a serious competition, with speeds perhaps as much as 70mph in large lots or on airport runways. In general, a course is laid out using traffic cones; time penalties will charged for disturbing cones. For most clubs the penalty is 2 seconds per cone, although for some it may be 1 second. In the Discussion Area you will find an discussion topic devoted to Autocross.

NASA-VA is pleased to announce that dyno service will be available at ALL NASA-VA events. Competition within the NASA classes has increased greatly and many have requested that a dyno service be available for tuning at the events. In addition many NASA classes have dyno certification requirements. Having consistent dyno service will allow NASA officials and series leaders to better insure adherence to the class rules. Examples of classes requiring dyno certification are American Iron and American Iron CMC, German Touring Sportscar Challenge (GTS), the Factory Five Challenge and the SE-R cup.
The dyno service that will be available at Carolina Motorpsorts Park on April 3-4 will be courtesy of Team One Promotions http://www.teamonepromotions.com

Autocross
Autocross is generally a timed event where you race against the clock; also known as Solo II in the SCCA. Your object is to manuever through the course as fast as possible without hitting any cones. Hitting cones will usually result in time penalties added to your final time. You do not race against other cars on the course like you see on TV (door-to-door), which makes this sport pretty safe.
Nothing is needed to get started in Solo II except a good and safe working car and a valid driver's license. Helmets are required, but are usually supplied by the sanctioning body hosting the event. If you do plan on buying your own helmet you have to make sure it is Snell certified. This certification is stamped on the inside of the helmet underneath the lining. Helmets that are legal for the 2000 season are M95, SA95, or M2000/SA2000 helmets. Also some regions give discounts if you are an SCCA member. http://www.scca.com
To get started in autocrossing is very cheap (well except for buying a car). There are no modifications needed to start. Alot of people get the misconception that in order to win I have to have the best mods. This is totally and seriously untrue . There are many different levels in Solo II: Stock Street Prepared Prepared Modified Street Touring , and Street Mod . Putting mods on your car bumps you up the chain into difficult and more competitive classes.
Starting out in Stock is basically where most people start. You can do some mods:

Miami - Ft Lauderdale - West Palm Beach So, you see all those people driving cars thru pylons, testing and developing their driving skill and you think to yourself, "Self, This looks like fun, I wish I could do this in a fun and safe manner without officer Friendly writing me more tickets than Smokey and the Bandit"
Well, fret no more, ER Sports Car Club is here!
ER is devoted to setting up events that are fun and safe. Here's how you can be racing safely with your daily driver or weekend racer without the fear of wreaking your life savings. All events are ba sed around SOLO style racing. This means ONLY ONE CAR ON THE TRACK AT A TIME . The courses are setup using pylons to simulate small road courses. Cars are spaced out as to prevent contact with another car (keeps you from swaping paint with the other fellow!) ER organizes two types of event, usually held over a Saturday and a Sunday : Time Trials or Autocrosses are similar to the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) SOLO II style racing. This allows everyone to race safely, just you, your car, the track and the stop watch timing you! The top speed reached are usually 70 MPH on race cars with usual street cars obtaining 55-60 MPH in short straight aways. The course combines slalom sections with various and sometimes tight turns and runs are done one at a time, from a standing start. Speedtrials are normally for more experienced racers that reach speeds of 100 MPH (75-85 in street cars) similar to SCCA SOLO I racing. The course is similar to the Time Trial with less cones and without the slalom sections. It's more like a small road course and runs are done in sequences of laps allowing the driver to get into a rythm.

    Autocross Mailing List
The name Team.Net is an outgrowth of the autocross mailing list. The mailing list is about autocrossing, for the most part dealing with SCCA Solo II events. Solo II is the term the Sportcs Car Club of America applies to parking lot "races," where one driver at a time negotiates a course laid out with pylons, testing their skill against the clock, as in the example here. There are currently about 850 members on the list, and the list generates maybe 300 messages a month, about half a megabyte of material. When some popular subject crops up, the volume of mail on the list rises accordingly. In addition to the main list, there are sublists for some of the more common areas, such as a sublist for the Bay Area, and another sublist for the northeastern US of A, and one for Utah. The list is available in a real-time format or as a digest, with the day's messages collected into one large nightly mailing. Some folks prefer this format over the steady stream of mail throughout the day. To subscribe, send an email message to
