Archives Appraisers Articles ... Comments The Quilt History list was created to provide a forum for people around the world who are interested in antique quilts and related textiles to discuss the historical aspects of quilting. We discuss all aspects of antique quilts - fabrics, design, color, etc. - as well as the stories behind them. We also share our experiences with the more practical aspect of antique quilts - finding, washing, researching, restoring and even reproducing. Some buying, selling and swapping is allowed, but our primary focus is on learning from each other by exchanging stories, research, tips and techniques. We are a very open and sharing group composed of scholars, writers, teachers, collectors, quilt appraisers, restorers, librarians, museum curators, and other professionals. We report findings, review books and articles, and share information about exhibitions, collections, publications, and conferences. General as well as such specific topics as quilt documentation projects, textile history, oral history projects, and quilter biographies are welcomed. The list open to everyone with an interest in the documentation and study of quilts, quilters, and quilting history. To join the list, click here or click on the PayPal logo below.

86. ENGLISH
A history of Turkish aircraft production is told in summarized form.
http://www.tuncay-deniz.com/ENGLISH/english.html
The two completely assembled, but engineless, THK - TAYSU agricultural and firefighting aircraft. It is not widely known that Turkey began quite early to be active in aircraft production. At the beginning the aircraft production was supported mainly by the army. After a difficult start-up phase this status changed only gradually. In the course of time, both civilian institutions and private persons worked in this interesting area. In the following you will find the very first attempt to present this quite unknown part of aviation in a very summarized form. All information was taken from my not yet published manuscript The Turkish Aircraft Production (T¼rk U§ak Imalati) . Additional information was taken from the books Ottoman Aviation 1909-1919 (by Ole NIKOLAJSEN and B¼lent YILMAZER), Turkish Military Aircraft 1912-1995 (by Ole NIKOLAJSEN) and Civil Aviation in Turkey 1923-2000 by (Ole NIKOLAJSEN and Tuncay DENIZ). All three books can be ordered on CD from Mr. B¼lent YILMAZER (e-mail: yilmazer@tr.net

Documents for American Legal History
The following are annotated documents for American Legal History, annotations and commentary designed to inform the reader of the results of my research. Printed collections of teaching materials must look toward adoption of the text to repay the investment. My perception is that that need results inevitably in the worst aspects of a survey: no line of argument. This collection of documents looks explicitly to a line of argument. The argumentative line pursued here, however, should not preclude other views. If readers would like to have their dissent appended, I would be willing to append those comments if they are reasonable in length and scholarly in tone, together with author attribution of the comment. Simply send the comment to me by e-mail: RPalmer@uh.edu
Except during July and August, such comments will appear in the materials rapidly. Authors of such submissions surrender publication and republication rights by the act of submission of the note, except insofar as they may require deletion of the submission from the version of the materials current at and following the date of the request. More documents will be added as they are completed. The documents with links are listed in series below:

94. St. Patrick's Day History
Page describes and explains St. Patrick's Day traditions.
http://holidays.lovingyou.com/march/history.shtml
About St. Patrick's Day
St. Patrick was born about 390 AD in Roman Britain. As a youth he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and sold into slavery in Ireland. He escaped six years later and fled to Gaul. After several years of monastic life, he returned to Ireland in 432 AD as a missionary to the people there. Legend has it that he drove all of the snakes out of the country. It is said that he used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the concept of the Trinity; hence its strong association with his day and name. St. Patrick is a hero in Ireland. In fact, there are about 60 churches and cathedrals named for him in Ireland alone. One of the most famous cathedrals is St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. These grounds bear the mark of the place where St. Patrick baptized his converts. Green is associated with Saint Patrick's Day because it is the color of spring, Ireland, and the shamrock. Leprechauns are also associated with this holiday. According to the legend, the Leprechaun is an Irish fairy. It is told that Leprechauns are unsociable, unfriendly, live alone. Also, they make shoes and possess a hidden pot of gold. The legend says if the Leprechaun is caught by a treasure hunter then he must tell where is treasure is, unless the Leprechaun can trick the hunter and vanish They were probably added later on because greeting card compaines needed something cute to put on their greeting cards. Good Luck for St. Patrick's Day

History
E aster is a time of Joy - It is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of Christian God. E aster falls between March 22 and April 25 every year. In 325 AD, the Council of Nicaea fixed the day as 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the 21st of March. The origin of Easter is thought to be the mythological goddesses "Ostra", "Ostern" or "Eastre". E aster is related to a number of different traditions like the Jewish festival of Passover, or Pesach, from which is derived Pasch, another name used by Europeans for Easter. Passover is an important feast in the Jewish calendar which, is celebrated for 8 days and commemorates the flight and freedom of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.
