It has actively contributed to the conservation and development of the national culture, as well as the cultural traditions and identities of the Vietnamese nationalities. The museum is located on Nguyen Van Thuyen Street (named after a famous national ethnologist), in Cau Giay District, about 7-8 km from downtown Hanoi . It covers an area of nearly 3.3 hectares. Ha Duc Linh, an architect of the Tay ethnic group, designed the museum in the form of the ancient drum of the Dong Son Culture, and interior decorations were designed by French architect, Veronique Dollfus. Being part of the National Centre for Social Sciences and Humanities, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is involved in various undertakings. It carries out scientific research on Vietnamese nationalities, collects, classifies, assesses, preserves, restores, exhibits, introduces and exploits the cultural and historical values of all the nationalities. It also provides ethnological references and trains staff in the specific fields of the ethnographic museum. The Museum also attaches attention to the cultures of other countries in Southeast Asia, seeing them as potential targets for exhibitions at the museum in the near future.

Museum of Cretan Ethnology - Vori The Museum of Cretan Ethnology in Vori is an institution of the Cultural Association of the Province of Messara. It was erected between 1977-1982 and opened its doors to the public in 1988. Its construction was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and by members and friends of the Association.
The Museum has 20.000 visitors per year.
The research department of the Museum has been engaged in various research activities since 1980. It functions as a coordinating body for the study of the Cretan ecosystems, covering the period from 1000 AD to our days.
The exhibited objects in the Museum come from all over Crete. These objects show that the folk culture of Crete is characterized by an amalgam of influences in which Minoan (2000-1000 BC), Archaic (1000-500 BC) and Byzantine models prevail, especially in agriculture, stock breeding, pottery and basketry.
Through 700 years of occupation, the Cretan people never surrendered to foreign models. The last period of vassalage was particularly harsh (second Turkish occupation 1669-1898), which is why material evidence of preceding centuries is very scarce. Most of the objects exhibited in the Museum date from the period of Turkish occupation. Their stark simplicity reflects the economic degradation. However the Byzantine tradition is preserved, wherever possible, as in the designs of traditional woven fabrics, in wood caving, architecture, and of course in music, dancing, singing and language.

Introduction to the International Core Data Standard for Ethnology/Ethnography
This page is an introduction to the International Core Data Standard for Ethnology/Ethnography . It is one of a number of pages about museum information standards prepared by the International Committee for Documentation of the International Council of Museums ( ICOM-CIDOC The International Core Data Standards for Ethnology / Ethnography has been prepared by the CIDOC Ethno Working Group . The preparation of the International Core Data Standards for Ethnology / Ethnography was one of the principal aims of the CIDOC Ethno Working Group established in September 1993 at the CIDOC Lubljana Conference. To provide the basis for the International Core Data Standards for Ethnology/Ethnography , the EWG prepared a questionnaire to survey the data standards used in ethnographical, ethnological , anthropological, open air museums and other museums having these types of collections. The questionnaire (with English and French versions) was prepared and distributed to the National Coordinators after a year of work by the EWG members, who discussed the questions of content, length and goals and tested it. The National Coordinators were found by making contacts during the CIDOC Conferences with people from different countries, by inviting EWG members to become National Co-ordinators or to find a National Coordinator, by making contacts with the members of the European Ethnological Museum Network trying to find National Co-ordinators through them and by writing to the Chairs of all the ICOM National Committees, asking them for assistance to find the National Coordinators for the survey.

The Provincial Museum is the repository for all of the archaeological artifacts collected within the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Access to the collections is available to researchers by appointment with the Curator of Archaeology and Ethnology The Museum also works with many community museums to help them with their displays and requests to borrow artifacts The Archaeology and Ethnology Unit is always looking for volunteers. There are two main opportunities for volunteers interested in the archaeology program: the public education program, and assisting in the lab. The public education program involves teaching school groups about the prehistory and history of the Province. If you are interested in volunteering in the public education program, contact Bob Forsey (729-0661, bforsey@gov.nl.ca Assisting in the lab will get you up close and personal with the archaeological objects recovered in the Province - a great opportunity for archaeology students or anyone curious about the Province's past to familiarize yourself with the Province's artifacts. It is best if you can regularly and consistently devote a morning or afternoon of your time. The tasks you will be doing will depend on the needs of the museum at the time and your particular skills and experience, but will likely include cataloging or helping organize the collections. If you are interested in volunteering in the lab, contact Elaine Anton.
